Lake Nokomis beaches remain closed through the weekend


MPRB has been conducting extra monitoring of Lake Nokomis for E. coli bacteria since Monday, August 19, when a sanitary sewer line near the lake backed up and released sewage into the lake.

 

Currently, E.coli levels remain elevated beyond what is typically recorded at Lake Nokomis during MPRB's seasonal monitoring of city lakes from Memorial Day to Labor Day. To protect public health, both Lake Nokomis Main Beach and Lake Nokomis 50th Street Beach will remain closed through the the upcoming weekend.

 

MPRB staff will collect and test lake water samples at both beaches on Monday, August 26 and provide an update on water quality conditions the following day.   

 

Meanwhile, seven beaches in Minneapolis remain open for swimming, plus pools and water parks - see details below.
