Join us in June at Kroening Nature Center & North Mississippi Regional Park
Featured Programs
Free and for all ages, unless otherwise noted
Saturday, June 3 • 7pm-9pm
During a full moon hike along the Mississippi River, we’ll explore the woods, the prairie, and how a day’s end changes these spaces. As we sit by the fire and make s’mores, a naturalist and Northside community artists will share moon stories from Indigenous and Black cultural traditions and experiences.
Black to Nature: Trees & Community
Sunday, June 25 • 1-3 pm Join in an afternoon celebrating the strength and beauty of trees! Meet a tree person on stilts, learn about trees on a guided walk, and create a wood craft with Northside community artists. At 2pm, we’ll honor those who have passed on with a tree planting ceremony.
About Black to Nature
These events are free, family-friendly and open to all, but hold space for all who identify as Black, Indigenous and/or people of color. They are curated by North Minneapolis community artists Amoke Kubat, Phyllis Chatham and Jayanthi Rajasa, based on their vision for Black people establishing healthy relationships with natural environments.

Listening to the Mississippi

Check out an artist-created mobile listening pack and orient yourself to the river through your sense of sound. Sit, linger or explore at your own pace as you take in a composition of sounds recorded in and around the river. The recording is accompanied by a free copy of "notes for listening."
"Listening to the Mississippi," is part of the Wakpa Triennial Art Festival presented by Public Art St. Paul. Kroening Nature Center/North Mississippi Regional Park is one of several Twin Cities host stations.
