Kenilworth Channel closure extended for Met Council light rail project construction

Kenilworth Channel has been closed to boaters since July 5 due to work on the Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT) project. Work includes demolishing the pedestrian bridge over the channel and removing false work on the newly constructed LRT bridge adjacent to the pedestrian bridge.

The closure was originally scheduled to be in place for one month, however, due to complications with labor and equipment availability, as well as the need to prioritize safety during heavy construction activities, the channel will remain closed for three more weeks.

Please call the SWLRT Construction Hotline at 612-373-3933 with any questions or concerns about the SWLRT project. Use the links below to visit the Metropolitan Council website to learn more about the project.
