Folwell Recreation Center improvements

Interior improvements, new roof coming to Folwell Recreation Center this fall!

Folwell Recreation Center will close for a week on September 12 as contractors for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) do abatement work. After it re-opens on September 19, construction begins on several interior improvements and a roof replacement. This work will require temporary closures in some areas of the center.

The recreation center improvements include:

  • Flooring, cabinet, and countertop updates in both recreation center kitchens and the arts & crafts room (temporary closures)
  • New ADA/gender neutral restrooms and storage, constructed in currently unused locker rooms (no closures; existing public restrooms will remain open throughout the project)
  • Roof replacement (no closures)

MPRB will send periodic updates on the projects, which is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

Recent Folwell Park and Recreation Center improvements

Thanks to funding from the 20-Year Neighborhood Park Plan (NPP20), MPRB has made a number of other improvements at Folwell in the past several years, including:

  • Tennis courts fully renovated
  • Parking lot, sidewalk leading to the recreation center, and center entry - accessibility improvements
  • New path connecting the courts and playground
  • New lighting for the west athletic field
  • New playground

See below for more NPP20 information - and scroll through 2017–2021: Five Years of NPP20 Accomplishments to review what NPP20 has funded to date in parks throughout Minneapolis.

Thanks for your support while we work to improve Minneapolis parks and recreation centers!

Every neighborhood deserves a great park.

Folwell Park's improvements projects include funding from NPP20, a historic agreement between the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and the City of Minneapolis. NPP20 helps address racial and economic equity across 160 neighborhood parks and provides more than $11 million annually to maintain, repair and replace facilities.
