Also known as an all-wheel park or bike training course, the track is the first of its kind in the Minneapolis park system.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is excited to announce a July 13 opening celebration for the new pump track at Perkins Hill Park, 300 34th Ave. N. in Minneapolis' McKinley Park neighborhood.

The 5pm ribbon cutting will include remarks from MPRB Superintendent Al Bangoura and MPRB Commissioners. It takes place in conjunction with Cycling 101, part of MPRB's Cycle the Summer bike event series, from 4-6pm. Cycling 101 features:

  • A youth-focused bike rodeo hosted by Minneapolis Park Police
  • Bike mechanics teaching basic maintenance and repair skills
  • BMX demos and a Big Air Show, to put the awe in an awesome experience!

See you at Perkins Hill Park!

Note: If you're coming for the full Cycling 101 event from 4 to 6pm, registration is encouraged.

About the Perkins Hill Pump Track

Also known as an all-wheel park or bike training course, a pump track features circuits of banked turns, mounds and other features. People of all ages and abilities can ride on the track with any type of bike, scooter, skateboard or glider.

While novices use them to build skills, pump tracks are also a challenging workout for advanced riders, who skip pedaling and maintain momentum with upper- and lower-body pumping motions.

Guidelines for Use

Take care of yourself and others

  • Please wear a helmet.
  • Be courteous to others.
  • Learn more about riding on a pump track by watching the videos listed below.

Help take care of the track

  • Enter only at the concrete area with a "trailhead" sign.
  • Do not walk or ride on the slopes around the track, where native plant seeds and seedlings are growing. When established, these plants will prevent erosion, and help keep the track in good shape.

Thanks for your patience and support as we work to bring new features to Minneapolis parks!

Every neighborhood deserves a great park.

Improvements at Perkins Hill Park include funding from NPP20, a historic agreement between the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and the City of Minneapolis. NPP20 helps address racial and economic equity across 160 neighborhood parks and provides more than $11 million annually to maintain, repair and replace facilities.
