Cedar-Isles Master Plan Update and Next Steps

Initial draft concepts phase is closed after nearly five months of feedback

Single preferred park concept shaped by feedback will be shared this summer

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has been working for several years on a new long-term plan for Cedar Lake and a portion of Cedar Lake Regional Trail, Lake of the Isles and Dean Parkway.

Two initial draft park concepts debuted for public feedback on December 16, 2021. After nearly five months of community engagement on the concepts, including 14 public meetings or open houses, this phase of the project is closed.

Many people shared their hopes and concerns to help inform the next design phase. Thank you to the project Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and everyone who has taken time to attend an event or contribute their thoughts on the project so far. Comments were received via an online survey, social media, and public meetings and events. Public meeting notes are linked below, more will be added soon.

Next Steps

Next, MPRB staff and the design team will evaluate all feedback to inform the creation of a single, preferred park concept for public review and comment this summer, expected in June.

There is strong interest in prioritizing water quality within the Cedar-Isles Master Plan. The preferred park concept will address water quality goals shared during CAC Meeting #10. Thank you to the CAC Water Quality Subcommittee for its work on water quality. These goals will continue to be vetted as the project moves forward.

The next phase will continue through the summer. It will include CAC meetings, open houses and an online survey about the single, preferred park concept. The CAC will vote on plan recommendations at the end of the next phase.

Then a draft master plan document will be written based on CAC recommendations and public feedback and published for a 45-day public comment period. After the 45-day public comment period, the document and a public comment summary will be presented to MPRB Commissioners before a formal public hearing and vote on the final plan, likely in winter 2022-23.
