The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has reopened Cedar Lake East Beach, Cedar Lake Point Beach, Cedar Lake South Beach and Bde Maka Ska's 32nd Street beach as of Thursday, July 1.
The beaches are now marked as open on the MPRB's water quality map after water quality tests showed that bacteria levels are in the normal range for all four beaches..
The Cedar Lake beaches were closed on Monday as a precaution after a private sanitary sewer backup in St. Louis Park caused a release to the storm sewer system. Bde Maka Ska 32nd Street beach was closed on Tuesday due to high E. coli readings that were unrelated to the events upstream of Cedar Lake.
The MPRB tested all Cedar Lake beaches on Tuesday, June 29 and Wednesday, June 30 as a precautionary measure, and worked with Minneapolis Department of Health to develop a re-opening plan.
