As temperatures slowly trend upward, MPRB plumbing staff have been working to open restrooms, activate bottle-filler stations and start up other seasonal plumbing throughout the Minneapolis park system.
The process includes more than 600 water controls at more than 100 sites throughout the city, so it can take up to eight weeks to have water flowing everywhere. All of the facilities below should be operating by Memorial Day weekend.
Start-ups generally occur in the following order, based on site type and water functions:
- Rental sites (picnics, weddings, events)
- Restaurants
-
Golf course buildings
- Restroom buildings
- Bottle-filler stations at high-traffic park and trail sites*
-
Garden irrigation systems
- Exterior restrooms at recreation centers (portable toilets are currently available)
- Bottle-filler stations at low-traffic park and trail sites*
- Athletic field irrigation systems
* Note: Due to protocols for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, only bottle-filling stations will be turned on. Stations with drinking fountains will have the fountain bubbler capped or turned off.
MPRB reminds trail and park users to prepare accordingly and bring water with them as necessary.
