Tons of activities for kids during Minneapolis Public Schools Spring Break

 

Youth are welcome at South Minneapolis recreation centers over Spring Break! Browse a wide variety of youth and family activities below and sign up to stay busy and have fun!

Register online by clicking the program title or visit minneapolisparks.org/register and enter the registration number in parentheses next to the activity title. You can also drop in or contact the recreation center where the program is being held.

All programs are free unless otherwise noted, but preregistration is required. All program participants must follow COVID-19 safety guidelines, including following the state mask mandate.


Take Home Fun

Spring Break Eggsperiment Kit (#119539)

Friday, April 2, 4-6 pm
Pick up at Longfellow Recreation Center
$5 Minneapolis residents, $7.50 non-residents

Celebrate spring and break from school with a take home kit full of experiments with eggs! The kit will include the supplies and instructions for a variety of science and egg activities. Do one each day or work your way through the activities at your pace. Are you ready to create a geode or rubber egg? Maybe you are ready to try that idea from TikTok? Can you break an egg in your hand?, make an egg float, create an egg snack and try new ideas for egg decorating.


Outdoor Activities

Fun on the Run

Monday, April 5-Friday, April 9, 1-4 pm
East Phillips Park

We will bring the fun to you! Fun on the Run is a staffed, portable recreation program that is scheduled at specific parks engaging youth and teens in fun activities. The program is free to participate in on a drop-in basis; no pre-registration is required. Supervision is not provided before or after the designated program times.

Spring Egg Breakers (#118979)

Come and join us for this outdoor celebration of spring. Time to hop on down the patio trail and find some eggs along the way. The spring season is upon us. It's a day to enjoy with your friends with a craft project, eggsperiments and some treats for all!

Join us for a Sports Sampler! Each week we will try out different sports and rec games such as Football, Kickball, Badminton, etc. We will do it all and have fun!  

Outdoor Adventures (#119531)

Stewart Park

Join us every to explore the wonderful world of outdoor adventures. We will take advantage of whatever the weather brings us so dress for the weather. Snowshoe if we have snow, Geo-cache if we do not, either way we will break out the lawn games and enjoy some fresh air. All outdoor equipment provided. Indoor activities will be provided if the weather is bad

Bike Club (#116819)

Join Stewart Park every Wednesday at 4 pm to meet in a fun, relaxed environment. We explore the many advantages of cycling for transportation, independence, and sport. Weekly activities include: basic bicycle mechanics, community gardening, bike crafts, and group rides. We provide all equipment! (Limited amount of bikes) Spring weather could have an impact on bike club

Bring your child to the park to enjoy family time in the gym. This is an unsupervised activity parents or a guardian must accompany their child(ren).

Hoverboarding (#113453)

Longfellow Park

Hoverboarding is a self-balancing personal transporter consisting of two motorized wheels connected to a pair of articulated pads on which the rider places their feet. The rider controls the speed by leaning forwards or backwards, and direction of travel by twisting the pads.

We will bring out the giant games, Chess, Jenga, Connect 4 and more, and have Patio fun at Peavey! A craft and active game will be set up as well.

Puck Drops Here (#119541)

Longfellow Park

Take your best shot and discover how fun and exciting playing floor hockey can be at Longfellow Park! This modified version of ice hockey can be played in regular shoes on virtually any hard surface with our pucks and sticks. We have the equipment. Protective eyewear required and mouth guards are encouraged.

Learn the 11 steps to archery success in this exciting new program. Certified instructors will determine student's dominant eye, teach proper archer form, shot execution, and follow-through. Class will be held indoors following the National Archery in Schools Program regimen taught in over 12,000 schools throughout the country. Equipment is standardized to be safe, durable, and universally fit any student.


Indoor Activities

Girl on Fire Time (#118255)

Experience new activities and interests while learning about teamwork and ethics! This is a place where you will develop friendships and socialize together in a safe environment. Each week we will focus on various activities and life skills! This program runs through April 19.

Movie Time (#117265)

Monday, April 5, 6-8 pm
Phillips Park

We recognize that film is a powerful tool and each week Phillips Community Center will bring films to youth. We will showcase the creativity of film makers and facilitate discussion on cinematography. Youth will be a part of this program process and collaborate to pick films and topics to discuss! This program runs through June 7.

Spring Break Xbox Madness (#111993)

Come to Phillips and join the XBOX 360 tournament challenge club! We will have tournaments for Fifa, Madden, NBA2K21, and more.
