Tons of activities for kids during Minneapolis Public Schools Spring Break
Youth are welcome at Southwest Minneapolis recreation centers over spring break! Browse a wide variety of youth and family activities below and sign up to stay busy and have fun over Spring Break!
Register online by clicking the program title or visit minneapolisparks.org/register and enter the registration number in parentheses next to the activity title. You can also drop in or contact the recreation center where the program is being held.
All programs are free unless otherwise noted, but preregistration is required. All program participants must follow COVID-19 safety guidelines, including following the state mask mandate.
Outdoor Activities
Youthline Wilderness Survival Week (#118704)
Monday, April 5-Friday, April 9 2-4 pm, Whittier Park
SNAP: Survival, Nature, & Adventure in the Parks. Learn skills to thrive in the wild! We'll practice fire-making skills, setting up camp, orienteering, making fire-starters, shelter-building, and more. No skills necessary, all youth welcome!
Fun on the Run (#119571)
Monday, April 5-Friday, April 9 1-4 pm, Lyndale Farmstead Park
We will bring the fun to you! Fun on the Run is a staffed, portable recreation program that is scheduled at specific parks engaging youth and teens in fun activities. The program is free to participate in on a drop-in basis; no pre-registration is required. Supervision is not provided before or after the designated program times.
Recess at Whittier Park (#116891)
Tuesday, April 6, 11:30 am-1 pm Whittier Park
We'll be outside on the Whittier Park Playground. Just bring yourself and we'll have outdoor equipment that you can use to get active during your school break. This program runs through May 18.
RevSports Spring Sampler (#119543)
Thursday, April 8, 2-4 pm Linden Hills Recreation Center
This is a fun, active, RevSports instructional Sports Sampler class that focuses on introducing your child to some different sports options. We’ll cover the basics with the hope that they have fun and enjoy the sport. We will have some basic instruction for baseball, soccer, and tennis.

Archery in the Parks - Demo (#119545)
Monday, April 5, 3:30-4:30 pm MLK Park
Instructors will teach proper archer form, shot execution and follow-through. Class will be held indoors following the National Archery in Schools Program regimen taught in over 12,000 schools throughout the country. Equipment is standardized to be safe, durable and universally fit any student.
Archery in the Parks - Distance Challenge (#119546)

This program is for previous and current students or youth who have attended an archery demo.

Play activities like basketball, soccer, catch and more. Parents may also supervise or join in play with their child(ren) during Open Gym. Open Gym at MLK Park is an ActivePass program. Youth can register at the front desk.
All Girls Hoop Drill (#118675)
Monday, April 5, 6-7:15 pm MLK Recreation Center
Stop in for basketball skills drills led by our experienced Girls Traveling basketball coaches. This is a great opportunity to get out of the house and get some extra practice after the basketball season. This programs runs April 5-May 31.
Go Gymnastics (#119542)
Tuesday, April 6,1-3 pm Linden Hills Recreation Center
First, just come to the park and have fun learning some of the basics of gymnastics for FREE! We will work on forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, balancing on beams and hanging on bars. Also, to ensure we have the proper ratio due to Covid-19 policies, we will have a self-directed art project for kids in the craft room as well.
All Boys Volleyball Drills (#118677)
Tuesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 8, 4-5:30 pm MLK Recreation Center
Through fun and exciting GRILLS (game like drills) players will be able to refine their skills and pick up new ones. Led by experienced coaching staff, players will get a chance to continue growing in the game of volleyball. This program runs April 6-May 25.
Soccer-Futsal Fun! (#119548)
Friday, April 9, 3:30-4:45 pm MLK Recreation Center
We will set up the gym for some indoor soccer/ futsal with our official goals. Any kids ready to run off some steam in the gym are welcome to play and park staff will add them to a team. Teams will be divided equally by staff based on age ranges, for boys and girls ages 9-12 years old.
3 on 3 Basketball Tourney (#119553)

Here’s your chance to show off all the basketball skills you perfected during quarantine. Bring your own team or we can match you up with teammates. Sign up online, call the MLK Recreation Center front desk, or sign up during regular Nite Owlz hours. Scroll to the bottom of this message for info on Nite Owlz. Indoor Activities
Virtual: Iconos Latinos/Latin Icons (#118665)
Monday, April 5-Friday, April 9 2-3 pm, Whittier or Fuller Park
Acompáñanos virtualmente para conocer la historia de los iconos que han influido la cultura Latinoamericana. Luego, los participantes profundizarán en el icono de esa semana creando manualidades, jugando juegos, contando historias y mucho más. Encontraremos y compartiremos las similitudes que tenemos con los iconos Latinos y nos daremos cuenta de que nosotros también tenemos el poder de hacer historia. Este Programa será ofrecido en Español.
Join us virtually to learn the history of the icons that have influenced Latin American culture. Then, participants will delve into that week's icon by creating crafts, playing games, telling stories, and much more. We will find and share the similarities we have with Latin icons and realize that we too have the power to make history. This program is offered in Spanish.
Zoom links will be sent prior to the first class. Participants will be asked to pick up supplies prior to the first class at Whittier or Fuller Park.

Come and experience the magic of Hogwarts! Whether you are Muggle or Magical, these projects inspired by J. K. Rowling’s beloved books will be sure to capture your young artist’s imagination and enthusiasm. We’ll explore a wide variety of art materials as we create magical masterpieces! Please pack a nut free snack and drink for your child.
KidCreate Studio - Mega Mess (#117038)

We’ll paint with plaster, tie-dye, make papier mache birds and fling paint like Jackson Pollock. We will even learn some art terms along the way. These are not projects to tackle at home- leave the mess with us. After all, art can be a mega messy good time!
ARTrageous Somewhere Over the Rainbow (#116940)

Preschoolers are invited to this Spring Break Camp to discover the beautiful colors and imaginative places somewhere over the rainbow. Paint, Sculpt, Collage and collaborate with other friends during this 3 day program. Many stories and songs will delight these munchkins as we celebrate the change of season.
Children must be toilet trained. Please pack a light lunch for a story time picnic each day.

This class is packed full of fan favorites! From papier mache bowls, projects that glow-in-the-dark, and messy clay masterpieces, these are the Kidcreate projects our littlest students love the most! All of them put together in one very popular class. This is the stuff the kids can’t get enough of and guaranteed to be an artsy good time! Come ready to get messy while you play right along with your child. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
KidCreate Studio – Hatchimals Sibling Class (#117032)

Doesn’t designing your very own Hatchimal sound like a dream come true? We’ll sculpt and splatter our Hatchimal eggs until they look just like the real thing-- we’ll even create a tiny fuzzy Hatchimal to go inside. Your artist will love using their imaginations to hatch up the cutest Hatchimal sculptures ever!

This is a safe space for individuals to relax, recharge, and simply be yourself in a supportive and fun environment. Each week participants will enjoy a different activity including sports, art, movies and more. This program runs through May 20.
Nite Owlz (#116533)
MLK Recreation Center Wednesdays and Fridays, 5-8 pm
Is your teen sitting on the couch doing nothing? Do you want them to have a blast? Teens take over the recreation center to hang out with friends, listen to music, play video games, and more. Call your friends, get off the couch and meet at the center to join in on the fun! This programs takes place every Wednesday and Friday night at MLK.
