The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board closed the Lake of the Isles ice rink today, Feb. 25, due to unsafe conditions and will cease maintaining all ice rinks by Monday, March 1. It was a good year for ice rinks in Minneapolis, but the recent stretch of above freezing temperatures and the rising sun angle are bringing skating, hockey and broomball seasons to a close.
Rink conditions are not good right now, but there’s a chance some activities may be possible this weekend, depending on weather conditions. Check the Ice Rink Status Map online for current conditions. By March 1, staff will stop maintaining ice and start the process of dismantling rinks in preparation of spring, when many rinks will convert back to athletic fields.
