Theodore Wirth Parkway Closures

Next phase of Theodore Wirth Parkway resurfacing project begins October 5

City of Minneapolis Public Works is scheduled to begin the next phase of Theodore Wirth Parkway resurfacing on October 5, 2020.

The first phase resurfaced the parkway between Golden Valley Road and 29th Avenue North earlier this summer. The next phase will resurface the parkway between the Theodore Wirth Golf Clubhouse parking lot and The Trailhead parking lot this fall.

Work will start at the west parking lot entrance for The Trailhead and progress north to the golf clubhouse east parking lot entrance. Both parking lots will remain open during construction, however, access to both lots will be blocked from Plymouth Avenue.

During construction, The Trailhead parking lot will be accessible traveling north on the parkway from Highway 55, and the golf clubhouse parking lot will be accessible traveling south on the parkway from Golden Valley Road.

Please follow detour signage and stay away from areas where work is being performed.

Additional parkway sections are scheduled to be repaved in 2021. See the map below for details.

Theodore Wirth Parkway resurfacing map and schedule

Street Resurfacing is a type of street maintenance and a recurring program by the City of Minneapolis. Resurfacing removes the top layer of asphalt pavement on a street and puts on a new layer of asphalt. This extends the life of the street between more expensive fixes. The asphalt pavement resurfacing is intended to last about 10 years.

Please follow posted detours and use caution in areas where work is being performed. For more information about street resurfacing projects in the City of Minneapolis, including a Frequently Asked Questions section, visit the City’s Street Resurfacing Program Page.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board appreciates the public's patience while our public infrastructure is repaired.
