Reminder: Public hearing on Minneapolis Parks Ecological System Plan scheduled August 19

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will hold a public hearing on the Minneapolis Parks Ecological System Plan on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020 at 6:30 pm during the regular Board of Commissioners meeting. The MPRB is adhering to social distancing recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic and all Board meetings are being held virtually.

Individuals who would like to provide comments to the Board of Commissions may submit comments to be read during the public hearing to jringold@minneapolisparks.org by noon Aug. 19 or via US Mail to: MPRB Board Secretary, 2117 West River Road, Minneapolis, MN 55411. Comments should be limited to approximately 300 words, which is similar to three minutes when they are read out loud by the Secretary at the Board meeting.

Individuals may also sign up to speak in person at the meeting by calling 612-230-6400 before 4 pm on Aug. 19 or by signing up in person prior to 6:30 pm at the Mary Merrill MPRB Headquarters, 2117 West River Road Minneapolis, MN 55411.

Although all commissioners will not be physically present, the Board Room at Mary Merrill MPRB Headquarters (2117 West River Road) is open to the public during Board meetings. Social distancing is encouraged.

The Ecological System Plan document will be made available on the project page (minneapolisparks.org/ecoplan) several days before the public hearing, when the Board agenda is posted.

The Ecological System Plan provides a framework for how environmental considerations can be addressed in ongoing planning, operations, and management efforts at MPRB. Its main goals are to compile, create, and illustrate city-wide ecological data; outline guiding principles for environmental management within the parks; and challenge the community to rethink the city around them in terms of ecological function, benefit and health.
