Please stay off mountain bike trails until temps are consistently below freezing to avoid damaging trails
Please do not ride or run on the Theodore Wirth and Brownie
Lake mountain bike trails during the fall freeze/thaw period. During this period, the trail tread does not
have an opportunity to fully dry and is susceptible to damage.
It is important to remember that tire marks or footprints
left on a wet trail tread cause soil erosion, which affects the sustainability
of the trails. Maintaining a sustainable
trail system in Minneapolis is the foundation of the trail’s very
existence.
The mountain bike trails are solely maintained by volunteers from Minnesota Off Road Cyclists (MORC) and they always need a helping hand! Meet at the trail on Wednesday evenings or visit the MORC
website for volunteer opportunities. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Mountain Biking page provides maps, trail descriptions and locations
of each of the five trail loops.
Once temperatures are consistently below freezing, trails will reopen, making winter fat tire bike runs like this possible:
