Wirth Mountain Bike Trails closed for fall freeze/thaw period

Please stay off mountain bike trails until temps are consistently below freezing to avoid damaging trails

Please do not ride or run on the Theodore Wirth and Brownie Lake mountain bike trails during the fall freeze/thaw period. During this period, the trail tread does not have an opportunity to fully dry and is susceptible to damage.

It is important to remember that tire marks or footprints left on a wet trail tread cause soil erosion, which affects the sustainability of the trails. Maintaining a sustainable trail system in Minneapolis is the foundation of the trail’s very existence.

The mountain bike trails are solely maintained by volunteers from Minnesota Off Road Cyclists (MORC) and they always need a helping hand! Meet at the trail on Wednesday evenings or visit the MORC website for volunteer opportunities. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Mountain Biking page provides maps, trail descriptions and locations of each of the five trail loops.

Once temperatures are consistently below freezing, trails will reopen, making winter fat tire bike runs like this possible:
