We are pleased to announce that Cedar Lake Parkway and the access to Burnham Road in Minneapoilis have reopened to all traffic. Earlier this week, the upgraded pedestrian crossing warning system and chip-seal treatment was installed on the roadway. Work will continue to at this site to restore landscaping, finalize trail connections, and other follow-on work.
This is expected to be the last full closure of Cedar Lake Parkway as part of LRT construction. We are thankful for the community’s patience throughout the multiple closures of Cedar Lake Parkway. We look forward to reopening the Kenilworth Trail later this year.
Last month, the final segment of LRT track was installed at West Lake Street Station. In total, over 58 miles of steel rail have been installed between Eden Prairie and Minneapolis. This project milestone makes possible the movement of light rail vehicles (LRVs) to SouthWest Station and live wire systems integration testing later this month. LRVs will be running on the tracks between Eden Prairie and St. Louis Park (and eventually Minneapolis in 2026) to conduct over 4,000 tests evaluating all mechanical and electrical components of the light rail system before passenger service begins in 2027.

General Note on Minneapolis after-hours construction activities:
The contractor will continue to schedule work that extends into evenings and weekends in Minneapolis. Work scheduled outside of normal working hours is time-sensitive – either on a critical path to reopening a road, trail, or sidewalk, or work that occurs within proximity to freight rail track but must be performed outside of freight rail operation windows. Community members can expect targeted after-hours work throughout the corridor in 2025. We will work to update community members on anticipated activities.
