 The 2025 construction season will begin in earnest later this month! As shown in the map above, construction will be active starting in a few key areas:
- Royalston/Farmers Market Station Area: Construction on Border Avenue and Holden Street between Olson Memorial Highway and Royalston Avenue
- West Lake Street Station Area: Construction activities on Excelsior Boulevard near West 32nd Street, Abbott Avenue South, and Market Place
Construction will also take place later this spring on Burnham Road as well as on Cedar Lake Parkway across the rail corridor. More details on that work will be shared in April as they become available.
 Green Line Extension civil construction is more than 90% complete throughout the corridor! This week’s featured video profiles the significant civil work completed including 16 new LRT stations; 29 new LRT, pedestrian, roadway, and freight bridges; new tunnels; as well as improved trails. All of this adds up to an exciting 2025 for the Green Line Extension as progress continues toward completion!
Minneapolis
Upcoming construction and impacts:
- Border Avenue and Holden Street between Olson Memorial Highway and Royalston Avenue:
- Partial roadway and sidewalk closures for pavement removals on Border Avenue and Holden Street are anticipated to start March 31 and construction activities are anticipated in this area to last through the fall, weather permitting. Access to local businesses will be maintained throughout construction. Detour maps will soon be posted on the website.

No parking will be allowed on Border Avenue or Holden Street once construction begins.
- The overall purpose of the 2025 work in this area is to reconstruct Border Avenue and Holden Street for new roadways, boulevards, sidewalks, and accessible pedestrian ramps and to enhance connections to the Royalston/Farmers Market Station area. The design plan for this area can be viewed here.
- Excelsior Boulevard near West 32nd Street, Abbott Avenue South, and Chowen Avenue South:
- Parking restrictions are anticipated the week of March 24 for utility pole relocation on Abbott Avenue South just north of Excelsior Boulevard.
- No parking will be allowed on the north side of West 32nd Street beginning March 26 for up to four days for potholing work to relocate existing utilities.
- Construction of new sidewalk and accessible pedestrian ramps on Excelsior Boulevard are anticipated to begin March 26. Construction activities are anticipated to last through early summer, weather permitting. This work will initially include a temporary lane closure and sidewalk closure on the north/west side of Excelsior Boulevard. Local access for businesses and residents will be maintained throughout construction. A map detailing access will soon be posted on the website.
- Partial roadway and sidewalk closures for pavement removals on Chowen Avenue South and Abbott Avenue South are anticipated to begin mid-April and construction activities are anticipated to last through the fall, weather permitting.

No parking will be allowed on Abbott Avenue or Chowen Avenue once construction begins.

Parking will be allowed on West 32nd Street unless otherwise noted.
- The overall purpose of the 2025 work in this area is to reconstruct Abbott Avenue South, Chowen Avenue South, and West 32nd Street near Excelsior Boulevard as well as sections of Excelsior Boulevard. Work includes new boulevard, sidewalks, and accessible pedestrian ramps and to enhance connections to the West Lake Street Station area. Construction impacts in the area are anticipated through fall. Ongoing:
- A lane closure is in place on the westbound (or north) side of Glenwood Avenue to complete bridge wall work. This work is anticipated to wrap up by late April.
- On Border Avenue and Holden Street, there is a lane closure for pavement removals to prepare for roadway and utility work.
- Royalston Avenue north of Glenwood Avenue up to the LRT tracks at Holden Street is closed for track and roadway work through 2025. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
- The sidewalk on the east side of Fremont Avenue North between Glenwood Avenue and 2nd Avenue North is closed into summer. The pedestrian detour is posted on the Minneapolis detour map webpage.
- Significant construction is continuing at the Kenilworth LRT tunnel. Kenilworth LRT tunnel weekend construction activities are currently not anticipated; the public will be notified if there is an unforeseen need for after-hours work.
- Pumps and generators will run overnight periodically in various parts of the construction corridor, especially at the Kenilworth LRT tunnel site. Pumps are used to manage water, and generators are used to power pumps and other equipment that keep pipes or other elements warm during freezing temperatures.
- Maintenance activities on the freight rail tracks may occur as needed outside of normal working hours and cause noticeable noise and some occasional vibration to nearby residents.

St. Louis Park | Hopkins | Minnetonka | Eden Prairie
Ongoing:
- Minor construction activities continue to occur throughout St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie. These activities are mostly confined to the rail corridor and station sites.

Note: The Met Council is in process of turning over maintenance of the South Cedar Lake Trail and Minnesota River Bluffs Trail to Three Rivers Park District (TRPD). Inspections and minor work may occur as this process continues. During this period of transition, trail users can continue to call the Green Line Extension LRT Project construction hotline at 612-373-3933 to ask questions or report concerns about trail conditions. Staff will connect with TRPD staff to follow up on these issues.
Minneapolis Trails
- The segment of the Cedar Lake Regional Trail between Royalston Avenue and Azine Alley (just west of West River Parkway) is currently open. There will be short-term trail closures in 2025 to complete work in the area beneath Royalston Avenue.
- The Luce Line Regional Trail bridge that crosses the freight rail corridor connecting Bryn Mawr Meadows Park with the Bassett Creek Valley Station area is closed and is scheduled to reopen in 2025. For your safety, please do not move fencing or other barriers.
- The segment of the Cedar Lake Trail east of Van White Memorial Boulevard is anticipated to reopen in 2025.
- Cedar Lake Trail from Bryn Mawr Station to Van White Memorial Boulevard is open.
- The Kenilworth Trail from the Midtown Greenway to Bryn Mawr Station in Minneapolis remains closed and is anticipated to reopen in 2025.
St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie Trails
- Trails are open from the Midtown Greenway in Minneapolis through Eden Prairie. There are no trail impacts.
Project staff share the community’s desire to see the trails reopen as soon as possible. The project office will continue to work with the contractor to improve on these opening dates.
