Service for Gold Line BRT will begin on March 22, 2025. Metro Transit is excited to introduce this new route to the east metro. Upon opening, METRO Gold Line will operate on a long-term detour due to the Kellogg/3rd Street bridge project. Union Depot & Sibley/Wacouta Station will be closed during the long-term detour. See the map below for the routing details and stay tuned for more updates related to opening day activities.
As the project team prepares for opening, Gold Line construction is coming to an end. To learn more about what’s been accomplished this past year and why this project is so important, watch this video:

The METRO Gold Line project includes the construction of significant trail infrastructure and the expansion of the trail and sidewalk networks to eliminate gaps in the existing system and increase accessibility for active transportation users.
A new shared-use trail has been built along the route, spanning from the Woodlane Station Park & Ride in Woodbury to Sun Ray Station in East St. Paul. These new shared-use trails are separated and distanced from the road at most points by a grass median.
The new trail will connect transit users to the existing bike networks in Woodbury, Oakdale, Maplewood and St. Paul. Future local trail connections are also planned to provide more links and access points to Gold Line stations. All Metro Transit buses have bike racks, so you can pedal for part of your trip and ride the rest.
We are wrapping our station spotlight series to share the latest updates, features, and amenities coming to your local METRO Gold Line station.

In 2027, Gold Line service will extend to downtown Minneapolis, allowing people to travel more efficiently across the metro. The Gold Line Extension will bring new, enhanced stations to Interstate 94 and Snelling Avenue as well as near U.S. Bank Stadium. In Minneapolis, the Gold Line will utilize existing bus rapid transit stations on 7th and 8th streets and bring riders to the METRO Green Line Extension’s Royalston Avenue/Farmers Market Station.
When in service, the Gold Line Extension will replace Route 94, the express route operating between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul, which currently serves around 800 riders each weekday. The Gold Line will provide a one-seat ride and offer frequent service seven days a week. For more information, visit: metrotransit.org/gold-line-extension.
