District 1
Message from Council Member Judy Johnson
As I begin my seventh year on the Met Council, I remain focused on improving critical infrastructure, expanding transportation and transit options, and ensuring thoughtful long-term planning for our district and beyond. I am particularly excited about the new wastewater treatment plant in Rogers, which will support the area's growing population and promote environmental sustainability.

The Imagine 2050 regional development guide was adopted February 12, 2025. I personally read every comment from District 1 community members and worked to integrate your feedback. I advocated for lower suburban edge densities that resulted in a compromise of 3.5 units per acre.
The proposed new water resource recovery facility on the Crow River will reduce energy use and meet advanced sustainability standards.
Forecasts show future growth more toward suburbs.
Metro Gold line will open on March 22, 2025, and will be extended in 2027. This year, we will also open the Metro B and E lines.
Customers can expect reduced transit fares during rush hour in 2025, which is expected to boost ridership.
The Highway 55 corridor is one of my top priorities, particularly the sections from Minneapolis to Medina and extending west to the county line. I value working with stakeholders to secure funding for safety and capacity improvements, along with future bus rapid transit (BRT) development, which will enhance regional mobility and reduce congestion.
|
I am proud to support Plymouth and Maple Grove regional transit providers as they innovate and expand microtransit services in the northwest suburbs. These efforts will offer flexible, on-demand transportation solutions and improve connectivity across the region.
I remain committed to working closely with communities through the Imagine 2050 planning process, which aims to guide long-term growth, infrastructure, and environmental policies. I value the candid input from city officials and stakeholders to ensure that development reflects community needs and values.
I enjoy meeting with the Northwest Hennepin League of Municipalities, where I engage with area mayors and commissioners from Three Rivers Park District and Hennepin County. These monthly sessions keep me informed about local challenges and opportunities.

As always, please reach out to me anytime as your Met Council member. I am dedicated to fostering regional collaboration, supporting local leaders, and ensuring thoughtful, inclusive planning that meets the needs of our communities.
Sincerely,
Judy Johnson Metropolitan Council Member | District 1 390 Robert Street North, Saint Paul, MN 55101
