Tips for resume writing
With the labor market being competitive, you want your resume to be noticed and get you on the short list for an interview. The average time a recruiter spends reviewing resumes is 30 seconds or less!
Resume dos: The top 20% of your resume gets 80% of the attention. Include the most important and relevant information at the top. Be sure to address the position requirements in your resume and update this for each position you apply to.
Resume don’ts: To limit the amount of information provided, use bulleted lists rather than blocks of text. Errors can be a deal breaker, so review for spelling and grammar errors. Using a second person as a proofer can be helpful, or reading your resume aloud can also be a valuable method of error detection. Do not reveal your age or include a photo. Hobbies and interests are not necessary; employers are primarily interested in what you can contribute to the position.

If you are in the job level of senior individual contributor, you should have received an email in the last week inviting you to volunteer to be added to a new Councilwide panel member pool for interviews in 2024.
The Talent Management team created this non-manager panel member pool as one way to increase the diversity of our employees who participate in interviews with Met Council applicants.
With this new database, our recruiters will be able to help hiring managers find other staff across the Met Council who would be good subject area matches for the position being interviewed and add diversity of cultural or professional background or experience.
This is a great opportunity for staff who are not managers or don’t often participate in the interview process to learn how to be on a panel for an interview.
If you are interested in volunteering for this pool, check your email from Joyce Masar, Senior HR Manager. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4.
We are committed to using everyone who is in the pool at least one time so they get the experience. Email Joyce at Joycelyn.Masar@metc.state.mn.us if you have questions.
