The Green Line Extension Project is pleased to announce that the South Cedar Lake Regional Trail has reopened between Blake Road and Beltline Boulevard. There will be periodic short-term closures to complete finishing work. Trail detour maps are being updated to reflect these changes. See Regional Trails Maps.
Registration is open for the final round of 2023 Green Line Extension LRT Project construction walking tours as well as project-sponsored bike tour. These are unique opportunities for members of the public to hear from project staff about the status of construction at specific sites along the project corridor.
If registration becomes full, there will be a wait list. Priority will be given to registrants who have not yet been on an LRT project tour in 2023. Upcoming:
- Expect inside lane closures in both directions on Technology Drive near SouthWest Station in late September for median work.
- Expect lane closures on northbound Flying Cloud Drive at Technology Drive in September to complete guardrail work.
Ongoing:
- Expect impacts on westbound traffic and the north sidewalk along Technology Drive throughout the construction season near SouthWest Station to complete the new station entry and passenger drop-off area. Updates will be provided as conditions change.

- Feltl Road will be closed for one day in late September or early October between Smetana Road and Bren Road West for Systems work.

Hopkins Highlights
Upcoming:
- Expect lane closures and turning restrictions near the Excelsior Boulevard LRT bridge at the intersection of Excelsior Boulevard/Milwaukee Street/Jackson Avenue on September 15 and September 18-20 from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. Eastbound Excelsior Boulevard will be closed September 19-20 from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM.
- There will be a full closure of the Excelsior Boulevard/Milwaukee Street/Jackson Avenue intersection October 2-4 from 9:00 PM-5:00 AM for bridge work.
Ongoing:

St. Louis Park Highlights
Ongoing:
- Louisiana Avenue remains closed at Oxford Street. East/west access through the intersection is maintained during the closure. Expect Louisiana Avenue to remain closed into mid-October. See St. Louis Park detour maps.
- The east sidewalk on Wooddale Avenue remains closed at the rail crossing.

Minneapolis Highlights
Upcoming:
- There will be a lane closure on westbound West Lake Street on the West Lake Street bridge between Chowen Avenue South and Market Plaza September 19-20 for bridge painting.
Ongoing:
- LRT tunnel construction on the “west heading” (towards West Lake Street) continues near the Cedar Isles Condos and Cedar Lake Shores Townhomes with excavation activities and installation of struts and walers. Concrete sawing and chipping and strut/waler installation may cause noticeable noise and some occasional vibration to nearby residents.
- West 21st Street between Upton and Thomas Avenues South is closed to non-residential vehicle traffic through the 2023 construction season for utility, LRT track and roadway construction. Local access for residents on Upton Avenue South is maintained through a temporary bypass road. Access from West 22nd Street to West 21st Street will be impacted as work progresses in the area.
- Lane and sidewalk closures on Penn Avenue South between I-394 and Mt. View Avenue will continue into October. Pedestrian access on Penn Avenue South will be preserved.
- Sidewalk impacts on Van White Memorial Boulevard bridge will continue into late September.
- Glenwood Avenue between Lyndale Avenue North and North 12th Street remains closed for construction of the LRT bridge and two roadway bridges. Construction of the roadway bridges is expected to be complete by the end of September. The reopening of the roadway to motorized traffic will be coordinated with the completion of Hennepin County’s work at either end of the bridge, detailed below. See Minneapolis detour maps.
- Glenwood Avenue at East Lyndale Avenue North and at North 12th Street/Royalston Avenue is currently closed due to work associated with Hennepin County. More information can be found on the Hennepin County website.
- The intersection of Royalston Avenue and Holden Street is closed for roadway and utility construction and is expected to reopen mid-October. This is inclusive of Holden Street west to the first driveway entrance. A future closure of the Royalston/Holden intersection will be needed for LRT crossing construction. - Royalston Avenue north of Holden Street is closed to through traffic up to 5th Avenue through September for roadway work. Local access is maintained to businesses in the area via North 5th Avenue and North 7th Street.

- Various trails within the Opus area are closed as crews complete project elements. The Opus trails are anticipated to reopen later this year.
- The Minnesota River Bluffs Trail between Shady Oak Road and 11th Avenue in Hopkins is anticipated to reopen in 2024.
- The Minnesota River Bluffs Trail between 11th Avenue and Excelsior Boulevard in Hopkins is open.
- The segment of the South Cedar Lake LRT Trail between Excelsior Boulevard in Hopkins and Blake Road remains closed and is anticipated to reopen in 2024.
- South Cedar Lake LRT Trail from Blake Road to Beltline Boulevard is open. There will be periodic short-term closures in the future for any additional work needed.
- The South Cedar Lake LRT Trail between Beltline Boulevard and France Avenue in St. Louis Park remains closed and is anticipated to reopen in 2024.
- South Cedar Lake Trail users between France Avenue and the Midtown Greenway may experience brief delays to accommodate adjacent construction. The trail will remain open and flaggers may be present.
- The Kenilworth Trail from the Midtown Greenway to West 21st Station is closed for tunnel construction and is anticipated to reopen in 2025. See Green Line Extension trail detours map.
- The Kenilworth Trail from West 21st Street to the Bryn Mawr Station area is closed for the duration of the construction season. Signage has been posted for the detour utilizing Kenwood Parkway. See Regional Trails Detour Maps.
- The Luce Line Regional Trail bridge that crosses the freight rail corridor at Bryn Mawr Meadows Park is closed. A new bridge is being reconstructed to connect the new Bassett Creek Valley Station with the Park and is scheduled to reopen in 2025.
- The North Cedar Lake Trail east of Van White Memorial Boulevard is anticipated to reopen in 2025.
Project staff share the community’s desire to see the trails reopen as soon as possible. The project office will continue to work with the contractor to improve on these opening dates.
