Another significant milestone on the Green Line Extension LRT Project has been reached as Cedar Lake Parkway in Minneapolis will reopen midday today (Tuesday, August 8) to cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists!
The parkway has been closed for more than a year to construct the portion of the Kenilworth LRT tunnel that extends under the roadway. The construction process in this area has been complex due to the specific sequence of tunnel construction activities as well as limited access and the continuous operation of the adjacent freight rail corridor. The opening of the parkway represents the first backfill of soil and restoration of permanent access overtop the tunnel structure.
The parkway will close again for a short time once the tunnel is complete to adjust the final location of the freight rail track and finish roadway, trail, and sidewalk construction.
