Upcoming Closures:

Hudson Road:

Hudson Road in East St. Paul will close to through traffic between Maple Street and Earl Street July 11. Hudson Road between Earl Street and Griffith Street will close July 24. Crews will reconstruct the road and sidewalks, replace underground utilities, and construct bus-only lanes.

I-94 Weekend closure:

I-94 between I-35E and I-694/I-494 will close over the weekend July 14-16 while crews demolish the Maple Street Pedestrian bridge over I-94. The bridge will be reconstructed in 2023. The Maple Street Pedestrian Bridge closes July 14.

Starting Friday, July 14 at 10 p.m. I-94 will close for the weekend between St. Paul and Oakdale/Woodbury and reopen Monday, July 17 at 5 a.m. Westbound I-94 will close between I-494/I-694 and I-35E. Eastbound I-94 will close between US-52 and US-61/US-10.

Mounds Boulevard Ramp closure:

The westbound I-94 off-ramp at Mounds Boulevard to Kellogg Boulevard will close starting July 14 through fall 2023.

Northbound Mounds Boulevard between the eastbound I-94 on ramp and Kellogg Boulevard will close starting July 17 through fall 2023.

Gold Line construction activities continue this week

Construction activities continue this week throughout the project area. Expect to see construction crews in St. Paul, Maplewood, Oakdale, and Woodbury. View a timelapse video of bridge construction in St. Paul and Woodbury.

Downtown St. Paul highlights

Ongoing:

  • Construction activities continue on the north side of 6th Street between Cedar and Minnesota Street. Crews are constructing foundations for the future BRT transit station platform.
  • Construction activities continue on the south side of 5th Street between Cedar Street and Minnesota Street. Crews are constructing foundations for the future BRT transit station platform.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Lane closures on 6th Street between Cedar Street and Minnesota Street. The bus stop at Cedar Street will remain in service. The sidewalk adjacent to the work zone will be closed. Follow the posted pedestrian detour.
  • Lane closures on 5th Street between Cedar Street and Minnesota Street. The bus stop on 5th Street will remain in service. The sidewalk adjacent to the work zone will be closed. Follow the posted pedestrian detour.

East St. Paul highlights

Upcoming:

  • Hudson Road in East St. Paul closes July 11 to through traffic between Maple Street and Earl Street. Crews will reconstruct the road and sidewalks, replace underground utilities, and construct bus-only lanes. Hudson Road between Earl Street and Griffith Street is expected to close in July 24. Hudson Road from Maria Avenue to Griffith Street will be closed through fall 2023.
  • The westbound I-94 ramp to Mounds Boulevard closes July 14 through fall 2023.
  • The Maple Street pedestrian bridge closes for reconstruction July 14.

Ongoing:

  • Crews construct retaining walls near the intersection of Earl Street and Hudson Road pave the Earl Street bridge and install curb and gutters.
  • Crews continue backfilling excavated areas near the Etna Station site.
  • Crews construct walls for the new bridge near the intersection of Ruth Street and Old Hudson Road. Crews also continue constructing station foundations for the new Hazel Station.
  • Work continues on Hudson Road between Maria Avenue and Maple Street as crews excavate the roadway. Saint Paul Regional Water Services continue to set up temporary water access for properties on Hudson Road.

Traffic Impacts:

  • The eastern half of Hudson Road between Cypress Street and Earl Street is closed for the next few weeks, including the Earl Street and Hudson Road intersection. Businesses on Hudson Road and Earl Street are accessible by sidewalks. Parking is available on Earl Street north of Hudson Road.
  • Earl Street is closed over I-94 between Hudson Road and Pacific Street. Follow the posted detour route along Burns Avenue, Johnson Parkway, and 3rd Street. The Earl Street bridge is expected to reopen July 11.
  • Westbound I-94 shoulder closed and temporary ramp shift at Etna Street.
  • Westbound I-94 right lane and shoulder closed between Highway 61 and Mounds Boulevard. This closure continues through fall 2023.
  • Ruth Street is closed over I-94 and the westbound I-94 entrance ramp from Ruth Street is also closed. The closures will continue through fall 2023. Follow the posted detour route along Old Hudson Road, White Bear Avenue, and Suburban Avenue. Access to businesses is maintained on Ruth Street and Old Hudson Road via detour routes and sidewalks.

Maplewood/Landfall/Oakdale highlights

Ongoing:

  • Crews work on the bridge deck for the new Bielenberg Drive bridge over I-94.
  • Private utility relocation work continues along 4th Street in Oakdale.
  • Crews construct the new Helmo Station foundations.

Traffic impacts:

  • Anticipate overnight lane closures on I-94 near the new Bielenberg Bridge as crews continue bridge construction.
  • Helmo Avenue is closed south of 4th Street in Oakdale.
  • The Helmo Avenue and Hudson Boulevard intersection in Oakdale is closed.

Woodbury highlights

Ongoing:

  • Storm sewer and watermain installation continues moving south from the Hudson Road and Bielenberg Drive intersection.
  • Private utility relocation work continues along Bielenberg Drive and Guider Drive in Woodbury.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Bielenberg Drive between Hudson Road and Guider Drive is reduced to one lane in each direction on the east side.
  • The Hudson Road and Bielenberg Drive intersection is closed. Follow the posted detour route on Tamarack Road and Radio Drive. Access to businesses on Hudson Road and Bielenberg Drive remains open throughout construction.

Nearby Projects:

  • MnDOT I-94 Pavement project
    • A large pavement project on I-94 between Hwy 120/Century Ave. and the St. Croix River will began in July 2022. This project work is anticipated to take two and a half years to complete.
