Gold Line construction underway

Crews resumed construction activities on Jan. 3 following a week-long pause. Bridge construction resumed in Woodbury for the new Bielenberg Drive bridge and near Etna Street in St. Paul. Building demolition is underway in Oakdale. This week construction activities were slowed due to the winter storm. East St. Paul/Maplewood highlights

Ongoing:

• Expect crews to continue building bridge foundations and piers near the Etna Street Station site over the next few weeks. Crews pour concrete for bridge foundations over the next few weeks.
• Crews conclude excavation of a stormwater pond near the intersection of Griffith Street and Wakefield Avenue and place clay liner.

Traffic Impacts:

• Continued traffic shifts to temporary ramp areas at I-94 and Etna Street (as shown on map above).
• The temporary ramp at the southbound Hwy. 61 on-ramp is expected to be removed mid-January, with traffic returning to the regular lanes.

Oakdale/Landfall/Woodbury highlights

Ongoing: Construction continues with site preparations, excavations, building up earth for the future BRT roadway, bridge abutments, and private utility work near the I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange area. Crews will continue work in the I-94 center median near between the I-494/I-694 interchange and Radio Drive, pouring concrete for bridge foundations, driving bridge piles, and installing a crash wall. Private utility relocation work continues along Bielenberg Drive north of Tamarack Road. Expect lane closures in this area. Building demolition is underway at two locations in Oakdale (as shown in maps above). Expect building demolitions to occur over the next few weeks near the intersection of Hudson Boulevard N and Helmo Avenue N and near the intersection of Hudson Road and Century Avenue.   Traffic Impacts: Expect median shoulder closures on eastbound and westbound I-94 between the I-494/I-694 interchange and Radio Drive into winter 2023. The METRO Gold Line is a planned 10-mile dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line that will connect St. Paul, Maplewood, Landfall, Oakdale, and Woodbury generally along Interstate 94.
