Employee engagement survey update

Marcy Syman

The fundamental nature of the relationship between an organization and its employees is often described by measures of employee engagement. These measures help us understand how enthused, absorbed, or dedicated employees feel. High engagement means the organization and employees are experiencing a positive work culture and are performing at a high level.

After a second push for more input from Metro Transit operators, the final participation rate for the Met Council employee engagement survey was 39% (1,541 surveys). Overall, this is a strong sample of Met Council employees. In areas where a particular demographic was under-represented, we will weight survey responses to match the workforce. The first level of analysis shows how employees responded to the twelve Gallup questions (PDF).

The cross-divisional survey team has begun to dig deep into the data for insight into the strengths and weaknesses of our work culture. In April and May, we will report details and identify action plans for implementation starting in June. Look for upcoming opportunities to learn about the results and ways that everyone can participate in creating a work culture where we can each contribute our best.

2021 workforce data and HR service report

The final report of 2021 Met Council workforce changes is now available. The report contains information about changes in workforce demographics, staff turnover, vacancies filled, and information about Human Resources services.

This report provides a new compilation of information and provides deeper insight into who we are and how our employment actions are impacting us. Interesting facts include:

  • Progress over five years toward diversifying our management ranks.
  • Millennial generation and employees of color dominated voluntary separations.
  • Separation numbers matched pre-pandemic 2019.
  • Separations out-paced hires, but we still hired 426 people in this labor market.
  • Turnover in some divisions is at the lowest rate in five years.
  • Women are consistently 25% of our workforce, which didn’t decrease during the pandemic.

Take a look at the full report to find the details that interest you (PDF).

Managers: New process for disabling and deleting user accounts

Information Services is implementing changes to the process for disabling and deleting network accounts of users – both employees and vendors – who leave the Met Council. The changes will take effect on March 15 and largely automate the process, making it easier for managers, supervisors, and those managing relationships with vendors.

Per the Met Council’s inactive account procedure, accounts are disabled (meaning the user can no longer log in) when an employee has left the Met Council or external consultants, contractors, or vendors are no longer under contract or require access. Once disabled, accounts are scheduled for deletion after 30 days, unless the supervisor requests access and delays deletion of the account.

Starting next Tuesday, the process will change for:

  • How managers and supervisors provide notice that an account must be disabled, and
  • How they can request access to an inactive user’s account before it is deleted.

Managers and supervisors, please read the full details on MetNet.

If others on your team manage relationships with vendors, please share this information so they understand the upcoming changes.

  • Women’s health, like cervical cancer screenings
  • Quitting smoking
  • Routine blood work
  • Screening and prevention help for sexually transmitted infections, like HIV and chlamydia

If you haven't been seen at one of the clinics previously, please call to schedule your first appointment:
