Project gets federal approval to begin next phase

The Federal Transit Administration cleared the METRO Gold Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project to move into the next phase to complete engineering and begin construction planning.

On April 13, 2021, the Federal Transit Administration completed its review of environmental documents and design plans and determined that Gold Line staff are ready to prepare for construction of the line. During this next phase, called engineering, project engineers will develop the blueprints that will guide construction. Gold Line construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2022 and is expected to take two years to complete.

What to expect in 2021

You can expect more design and engineering work this year as Gold Line staff prepare for construction. Anticipated 2021 activities include:

• Finalizing design and sharing additional station and route design details with the community. You can see the most recent version of the design plans on the project website.
• Coordinating with property owners on easements and mitigating construction impacts.
• Completing utility work in advance of Gold Line construction beginning in 2022.
• Receiving contractor bids and selecting a contractor for construction.
