Intercultural competence: Conversation with Council leaders

Syman

Council managers and supervisors are encouraged to attend the special “Ask HR” Webex session on Feb. 5 at noon to join the conversation and hear leadership perspectives on the recent training on the Foundations of Intercultural Competence.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to identify ways to use the training to create a more engaging, equitable work culture. We’ll hear from a few of our division leaders and participate in a conversation about why equity is important in our work, what we’re learning as individuals, where we’re at as an organization, and where we go from here.

An Outlook invite was sent this week to all managers and supervisors.

Perform: Process changes and 2021 goal setting

Based on feedback received from the survey and focus group session, the Perform team is pleased to announce the following changes for the 2021 performance evaluation process in Perform:

  • Employees will be responsible for entering their goals into the Perform system for managers to review and approve.
  • Mid-year check-ins will be configured as tasks within the Perform system, but not require the completion of the check-in form.
  • Managers will have access to the year-end performance evaluation once employee goals are acknowledged. Managers can now add comments and notes on performance goals and competencies directly in the performance evaluation throughout the year.
  • The employee year-end feedback form questions have been updated, and employees will have the ability to save as draft and return to completing the form as needed.

Employees should enter their goals for manager feedback by the middle of February. Manager/employee conversations should be happening throughout the month of February with goals finalized as soon as practical or no later than mid-March.

Quick start guides, short video tutorials, and updated resources are available for managers and employees on the Performance Management page on MetNet. Here are a few resources to help with setting goals:

Raising concerns and complaints

Wherever people work there is the potential for conflict. Conflict may be the result of personality differences, miscommunication, or behaviors that violate Council policies.

As a first course of action, many conflicts can be addressed through conversation between individuals. But concerns and complaints come in many shapes and sizes so there are several options an employee can choose from:

  • EthicsPoint is the Met Council's new reporting tool that allows concerns to be reported anytime – anonymously online or by phone. Make a report online or call 844-996-0273. Concerns are promptly reviewed by Human Resources, the Office of Equal Opportunity or Internal Audit staff. As appropriate, the report will be investigated or referred to the relevant manager or senior manager.
  • Bring concerns directly to any one of the following:
    • Your supervisor or a manager in your chain of command
    • Human Resources for behavior in violation of workplace policies including respectful workplace
    • Office of Equal Opportunity for behaviors in violation of Council policies against discrimination and harassment
    • Program Evaluation and Audit for suspected fraud or waste

All complaints will be taken seriously. We’ll work to hear your concerns, find the facts, prevent retaliation and take the appropriate steps to resolve the issue.

Internship postings start Monday, Feb.1

The Internship team is gearing up and working alongside hiring managers to get all internship postings ready. More than 40 internships will go live on Feb.1 and close on Feb. 26.
