Employee year-end check-in form due Oct. 23

Syman

The first task in the year-end performance evaluation process is for employees to complete their year-end check-in form, due Oct. 23. This is the employee’s opportunity to provide input to their manager about how the year has gone so far, their progress on goals and competencies, and professional development. This form begins the year-end evaluation discussion and helps the manager complete their review of the employee’s performance.

To complete the employee year-end check-in form, the employee enters responses to five questions in a form within Perform. This is a new part of the year-end evaluation process for some staff.

  1. What went well over the annual review period?
  2. What did not go as planned over the annual review period?
  3. What strengths did you demonstrate over the annual review period?
  4. Which competencies need further development and why?
  5. Which of your career and development objectives were met?

Employees can access the year-end check-in form on their Perform dashboard. For instructions and tips on completing this form, review the year-end check-in form guide (PDF).

Visit the Performance Management page on MetNet for information and instructions on Perform, performance evaluations, and competencies. Also included on that page are the deadlines for the tasks employees and managers must complete for the year-end performance evaluation. Although performance evaluations are not due until Dec. 11, some tasks are due in October and November, and we strongly encourage you begin tasks early. Email Perform@metc.state.mn.us if you have any questions.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Know your risk

Welcome to Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Met Council - championed by two breast cancer survivors and executive leaders, Marcy Syman and Mary Bogie. This month Fit For Life is equipping you with the knowledge and resources you need to know your breast cancer risks and preventative measures you can take today to lower your risks. Let’s start off with a pop quiz:

  1. Do you know the 12 signs of breast cancer?
  2. Do you know what a cancerous lump feels like?
  3. When should you get a mammogram?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, check out this information gold mine from the Know Your Lemons Foundation. Every person is at risk for breast cancer; so don’t delay, check out what to look for today and while you’re at it, learn more about what can put you at a higher risk for breast cancer.

Show your pink pride this month by emailing fitforlife@metc.state.mn.us a picture of you or your pet in a pink outfit, change your signature line, or share your survivor or supporter story with us.

"Ask HR" sessions material posted

The two sessions of "Ask HR" have been recorded and posted along with the PowerPoint presentation from Sept. 25. Both can be found on the Human Resources page under the Building Diversity tab. The collection of responses to questions we received from staff will be posted early next week.

Please join Human Resources for the next "Ask HR" topic on Promotions, Oct. 9 at 11:00 a.m. All employees were sent an invite via Outlook.

The candidate has been selected, now what?

Once a decision has been made after the selection interview, the hiring manager must create a hire justification memo detailing why they have selected the candidate for the position above all others who were interviewed. They must also explain why they did not choose the other candidates. This memo will include how many candidates were invited to the selection interview, how their skills and experience would add value to the team, and what makes them the most qualified person for the position. All interview notes and materials are returned to Human Resources.

The reasons for the selection from the hire justification memo are included in the hire authorization form. The hire justification memo is used to obtain hire approvals.  The hire approval is routed to the division management/director, the Office of Equal Opportunity and the Director of Talent Management for their review and approval. The Office of Equal Opportunity will review the hire justification for the selected candidate and where female/people of color/disabled candidates for the position fell out of the recruitment process. If they have any questions about the process, they contact the recruiter to answer their questions before they will approve the hire.

Next week's article will highlight pre-employment tasks.

2021 internship program timeline

The internship program team has been working on preparing for the 2021 year. Keep in mind these important dates:

  • Internship Request, November 23 through December 11, 2020
  • Internship Request Approval Process, December 14 through December 31, 2020
  • Internship Posting Period, January 25 through February 12, 2021

These dates are subject to change.

The internship request period will allow hiring managers to request their internship for the summer of 2021. The request period will be done in an online format. More information on how to request your internship through the online form will be coming soon.

Internship approvals will be done a bit differently as well. The internship team will gather all requests and submit them through their respective division approval process. All requests will have a workflow which will notify you via email to let you know if the internship has been approved.

This year we’ll only have one posting period for all our college-level internship programs. We’ll begin our outreach starting in October to all colleges to let them know that our tentative posting period is January 25.

If you have any questions, please contact Luis Martinez.
