Sexual harassment awareness and prevention

Marcy Syman

Workplace sexual harassment includes physical, verbal and non-verbal unwelcome behavior that is sexual in nature. The consequences of sexual harassment are negative for all of us: legal liability, depression, lower morale, and reduced ability to recruit and retain employees to name a few.

We are all responsible for creating a respectful, productive work environment. Behavior sets the example and the tone in a workplace.

  • While not technically sexual harassment, avoid sexist statements or comments at work, even if said in jest. If you hear such comments, take action by pulling the person aside and having a conversation about why their statement was inappropriate.
  • Show respect for the opinions and contributions of everyone on your team, no matter their gender.
  • If you've asked a co-worker to go out on a date and the answer is no, take it as a no and move on in a professional manner.
  • If you're wondering about your actions towards a co-worker don't assume because there has been no protest that it is welcome. If there is unequal power between you two, it may be difficult for the person to express their true feelings.

If you believe you have been subjected to or witnessed sexual harassment report violations to:

  • Any supervisor in your department including a department director
  • Human Resources department staff
  • Office of Equal Opportunity staff

Take a moment to review the Council's policy on Discrimination, Harassment and Inappropriate Behavior.

Over-the-counter medications now eligible under FSA/HRA plans

With the passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the federal government reinstated coverage of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and medicines as eligible for reimbursement on our Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRA) without the need for a prescription.

This change is effective for expenses incurred on or after January 1, 2020. The law also expanded the definition of qualified OTC items to include menstrual care products; however, the expanded definition does not allow changes to your 2020 contributions.

While merchants are working to update their systems to accommodate this change, HealthPartners anticipates members may experience inconsistences among retailers being able to automatically substantiate these purchases as eligible claims when using our FSA/HRA debit card. If this occurs, you can submit your claims for the purchase using the myHP mobile app, or online using your HealthPartners account, or manually using a reimbursement form.

If the merchants’ systems are updated at the place of purchase, you’ll be able to use your debit card for payment. Submitting receipts to HealthPartners should not be necessary, however; you should always keep your receipts for tax purposes.

HealthPartners has updated the tables available online for you to reference eligible expenses.

HealthPartners now scheduling video visits

HealthPartners is launching a call campaign with members that are identified for case and disease management programs. They are encouraging members to take care of themselves and maintain regimens that support managing their chronic diseases. Now more than ever, it is important for patients to seek care when they need it in spite of the current COVID-19 situation.

Many clinics are moving quickly to online care and video visits. A video visit is just like an office visit. You get the same personalized care, expert diagnosis, and a treatment plan tailored to you. The only difference is that you're speaking with your doctor live via video chat. HealthPartners is now offering video visits; you may have received an email about it.  If not, here is how you can request a video visit with a HealthPartners doctor:

  1. Schedule - Simply schedule an appointment online or call your clinic and ask for a video appointment.
  2. Download - Before your visit, download Google Duo from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  3. Say hi to your doctor or clinician - HealthPartners will call you through Google Duo at your appointment time. You can use any device with a camera to video chat. During your video visit, they may ask you about your concerns, symptoms and medical history.
  4. Start your treatment - If needed, HealthPartners will send you a treatment plan following your video visit and send any prescriptions you may need to your preferred pharmacy.

Schedule your video visit online at
healthpartners.com/schedule or call your neighborhood clinic. Visit healthpartners.com/care/telehealth for more information.
