Light rail service hours reduced in support of COVID-19 response
Light rail service hours will be further reduced beginning Saturday, April 18, as part of Metro Transit’s continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Light rail service will be provided between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily, beginning April 18. Light rail trips that begin before 9 p.m. or are scheduled to be in-service at 6 a.m. will operate, and 24-hour service will continue between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
The new service hours apply to both the METRO Blue Line and METRO Green Line. Trains will continue to operate every 20 minutes during in-service hours.
Bus service will continue to operate between 4:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. Light rail service is being further reduced on April 18 so limited resources can be focused on times with the greatest demand by essential riders.
Metro Mobility is providing free door-to-door service from home to work and work to home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for people who work at a healthcare facility and are affected by changes to regular route transit.
Replacement buses in service next week
Buses will replace trains on portions of the METRO Blue and METRO Green Line from April 20 to April 27 to allow for construction and maintenance. Replacement buses will operate on a similar schedule as trains, and will not run between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Replacement bus boarding maps are available at metrotransit.org.
Replacement buses will be used according to the following schedule:
-
Monday, April 20, to Wednesday, April 22: Buses will replace Blue Line trains between the Franklin Avenue and U.S. Bank Stadium stations while crews paint the Interstate 94 bridge.
-
Thursday, April 23, to Sunday, April 26: Buses will replace Blue Line trains between the Target Field and Franklin Avenue stations, and Green Line trains between the Target Field and Stadium Village stations to allow for track repairs.
-
Monday, April 27, to Thursday, April 30: Buses will replace Blue Line trains between the 28th Avenue and Mall of America stations to allow for track repairs.
Essential travel only
To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, transit should be used for essential travel only. Those who must ride are asked to wear a face covering, leave space between themselves and others and follow other public health guidance, including staying home when ill.
To support social distancing, no more than 10 customers are allowed on 40-foot buses at a time; no more than 15 customers are allowed on board 60-foot board buses at a time. When a bus reaches the customer threshold, it will display “Next Bus Please” on its overhead sign to notify waiting customers that they should wait for the next trip.
