MAC 2022 Annual Report now available

As travelers sought out flights in increasing numbers last year, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) saw a 24% increase in passenger traffic compared to 2021. That trend -- which included more than 31.2 million individuals passing through MSP -- and others are highlighted in the Metropolitan Airports Commission's (MAC) 2022 Annual Report.

Delta kicks off direct flights to Tokyo-Haneda with gate event at MSP

MSP marked a major milestone over the weekend as Delta Air Lines resumed daily, nonstop service to Japan’s Tokyo-Haneda Airport (HND). The MAC joined Delta to celebrate the first weekday flight between MSP and HND Monday after the route relaunched March 25.

For Roxi and Lynn Tienter of Preston in southeastern Minnesota, the resumption of service to Japan is welcome news following the route’s three-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They have three young granddaughters in Japan. While they’ve already visited twice since Japan lifted many of its travel restrictions last October, those visits required multiple stops. It’s far easier to make the two-hour drive from Preston to MSP Airport to board the direct Delta flight.

The Tienters were among the many eager passengers queued up to board the Delta flight Monday, March 27 after the celebration at the gate.

MSP's waste recycling program featured in national spotlight

Airport Experience News recently featured MSP's food waste recycling program, recognizing the airport's efforts to emphasize sustainable practices. Airport Experience News is a leading industry information resource and event organizer, and its article -- ‘Making Zero Waste a Reality’ -- featured MSP and other U.S. airports.  MSP's multi-faceted sustainability program aims to reduce emissions and waste water, keep more material out of the waste stream, and engage employees of the MAC.

MSP Airport once again named best in North America

MSP was recently once again named the Best Airport in North America by the Airports Council International (ACI) global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Program. This marks the sixth time in the past seven years that MSP has received the honor. MSP’s recognition is for the 25-40 million passenger category in 2022, an honor MSP also received in 2021 and for four straight years between 2016-2019. MSP's Concourse G upgrades boosted by FAA grant

The Federal Aviation Administration recently announced new funding for MSP to support the renovation of Terminal 1’s Concourse G. MSP was awarded $10 million for an upcoming project to reconfigure the area between Gates G8 and G13 as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). The work will expand the concourse’s footprint between the existing gates, allowing for increased seating, concessions space and new restrooms. The work does not add additional gates. This new expansion will be aligned with similar improvements completed earlier this year between gates G17 and G22. MSP is one of 99 airports awarded funding as part of the FAA’s Airport Terminal program. The new project will be put out for bids later this year and construction is set to start in 2024.
