The six reliever airports in the Twin Cities area operated by the MAC saw demand remain strong in 2022, as the airports supported 342,136 operations -- takeoffs and landings.
The MAC’s general aviation airports provide services for personal, recreational and business aviation users. They are referred to as “reliever airports” within the Twin Cities area because they relieve congestion that would otherwise impact MSP Airport. Find full details about 2022 reliever operations here.
At MSP Airport, passenger traffic was up 24% in 2022, as the recovery from the pandemic continued. Airlines' fleet mix trended toward larger planes with more seats to match growing passenger demand, making the Boeing 737-800 the most-flown passenger aircraft at MSP.

Registration is open for the 32nd annual Minnesota Aviation Career Education Camp (ACE), which provides high-school age youth with hands-on opportunities to learn about aviation-related careers.
The six-day ACE camp takes participants behind the scenes in several areas, including on the ramp at MSP Airport, inside a flight simulator, and aloft for a flight in a small aircraft.
Participants and staff are based at Concordia University in St. Paul, but the activities take them to several area airports.
Camp sessions start in June, and applications are due by April 17. Tuition is charged and scholarships are available. Find all the details at the program’s website.

MSP Airport’s COVID-19 testing and treatment sites closed at the end of January after providing 692,644 tests.
The Terminal 1 testing site started serving the public in November 2020, and its accessible, central location in the Twin Cities made it the busiest state-run testing site in Minnesota.
The separate test-to-treat site at MSP, which opened in June 2022, also closed last month. The airport also provided space for the operation of a private, rapid-test service that is now shuttered as well.
“The MAC and MSP Airport is proud of our role in providing the community with access to COVID-19 testing,” said Kristi Rollwagen, manager of Emergency Programs for the MAC. “The site was convenient for people who rely on public transportation, and the strong partnership between the MAC, the Minnesota Department of Health and Vault Health was key to our response to the pandemic.”
COVID-19 testing, treatment and vaccination resources are still available. Visit the Minnesota COVID-19 Response site for full information.
