Looking back on 2022, MSP Airport’s rebound in passenger traffic included robust days of travel near several holidays. Thursdays and Sundays continue to be the days that are regularly the most popular with travelers, based on data from the Transportation Security Administration that records the number of people moving through security checkpoints. The data doesn’t include people who caught connecting flights at MSP.
Of the top 20 days of 2022 for passenger travel, Thursdays and Sundays accounted for 10 of those, with the single busiest day of the year being Oct. 20, which was the Thursday of the MEA school holiday weekend. A total of 41,950 passengers passed through MSP security checkpoints that day.
Five of MSP’s 20 busiest days in 2022 occurred in March, related to spring break travel. Four of the top days were in October, near the MEA break, and another four were in late December, in the heart of the holiday season.
Near the end of January, MSP Airport will release its full-year results for 2022, which is expected to show substantial gains in overall traffic. MSP and the Metropolitan Airports Commission thank all the travelers who returned to the skies last year, and we look forward to welcoming more flyers back in 2023.

"Farm Scene, Merrill WI," a painting by Eric Cornett, won best in show.
The creativity and skill of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport employees, volunteers, retirees and their families are now on full display as part of the 12th annual “MSP Creates: Airport Community Art Show,” which opened recently in the Concourse C Art Gallery at Terminal 1 (near Gate C12).
This year, 127 artists submitted 165 works of art.
The Arts@MSP exhibit, co-sponsored by the Airport Foundation MSP and the Metropolitan Airports Commission, along with the National Arts Program, will be on display in the Concourse C Art Gallery through May 26, 2023.
Visit the exhibit the next time you fly out of Terminal 1 at MSP. Not flying anytime soon? You can still view all of the artworks by visiting the Airport Foundation MSP’s website.
An architect’s unique take on several iconic Twin Cities buildings is now on display at MSP Airport’s (MSP) Terminal 1.
Jens Vange's "Hidden Dimensions in Urban Architecture" series of photographs are in the Colonnade Gallery toward the end of the refurbished Concourse G. The area, with its MSP Liminal display across the hall and a new rotunda, is evolving into one of MSP's most dynamic concourses.
Jens is an architect with Alliiance, one of the MAC's design consultants, and has been involved in several of MSP's architectural projects for more than 26 years, including its award-winning restrooms. He received a Kodak instamatic camera from his Danish father when he was in his early teens and has been taking photos ever since.
His focus has been capturing urban buildings through the reflections of their neighbors, including scenes of Minneapolis' Foshay and AT&T towers. Jens' father was a carpenter and mother an artist so he says it was a "foregone conclusion" that he would become an architect.
Stop by and see the exhibit the next time you're on Concourse G.
