So far in 2022, the Airport Security Division has denied 112 badge applications due to disqualifying criminal convictions. That compares to 46 total denials in 2021.
These have all been discovered by our adjudicators while reviewing applicants' criminal history records (CHRC) and finding issues that prohibit an applicant from obtaining an MSP Airport Badge.
As a Signer, there are public websites you can use to do some preliminary background checks on employees, saving yourself and your company time and expense.

The new online application process continues to provide efficiencies for everyone involved, and we thank you for your continued use of the system.
One thing we want to emphasize, though, is that the online system doesn’t lessen the importance of each Signer’s attention to detail as you’re reviewing a badge application.
When you receive initial applications for security badges, or renewals, please remember to give the documents a thorough review before forwarding them to the Badging Office. Here are some of the most common reasons applications are rejected:
- Evidence of Signers not reviewing documents
- Missing the applicant’s middle name on application
- Social Security Number has an error in it; any correction requires the applicant to re-start process and take new fingerprints
- Incorrect date of birth
- Work authorization document expired or expiring soon
- Name changes without proper documentation
- Undisclosed aliases
- Change in citizenship without presenting documents
- Using a state-issued ID with an old address – updating can be done in less than an hour!
- Go online and use the new process! Using the online application system prevents 99 percent of rejected applications
The Badging Office occasionally closes to allow for such things as system upgrades or staff training. Please visit www.MyMSPConnect.com/badging for posted hours of closure and check often for updates.

The procedure for picking up concourse passes at Terminal 1 will change on Jan. 1. 2023, as we are changing the location of the information booth that facilitates that process.
Starting Sunday, Jan. 1, concourse passes will be available from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., 365 days a year, at the departures level booth directly in front of the Aurora sculpture in the ticketing lobby. Visit this page on MyMSPConnect.com to see additional details about concourse passes.
From 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. each day, concourse passes will be available at the information booth on the tram level (the current information booth that passes them out.)
There are no changes to the procedure at Terminal 2.

Employee theft has become a growing concern at MSP Airport, with 15 cases so far this year.
One thing that thieves are apparently not considering: MSP has almost 4,000 video cameras on site. The majority of those are located inside the terminals and most areas of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are covered. If someone steals -- whether it’s a passenger or an employee – the Airport Police Department has the tools to successfully track down the suspect.
Please review these facts with your employees and all new hires. Employee theft can lead to a criminal charge or citation. Any criminal investigation will lead to an immediate badge suspension, which means the employee can no longer report to work in secure areas of MSP.
Quick website and email reference list for common questions we hear at the Badging Office:
|
If you have an employee whose badge was suspended, you should know that active badges are suspended when we are notified of an active warrant. The badge can be re-activated once the warrant is cleared up (if it is not a warrant for a disqualifying crime).
Active badges are also suspended when we are notified of an arrest for a disqualifying crime until the individual can show proof that they are not being charged with a disqualifying crime.
