Current MSP Airport employees occasionally come to the Badging Office to add a company to their badge, as they have taken a second job or multiple jobs here. Sometimes, however, those employees have not told their new employer that they’re already working for a company here.
The Badging Office requests any employee in that situation to alert their new employer that they are currently employed by another company. We also inform the employee that they need a new badge application from their current employer(s). This allows the Badging Office to combine all employers on one security badge.
To get ahead of the inefficiencies that result from this scenario, Signers should always ask applicants if they already work for a business at the airport. If they do, tell the applicant that they will need a new badge application from all of their existing employers as well, which enables a single security badge to be valid for all companies. Having the information up front avoids delays in the badging process for all those involved.

We appreciate all the Signers who recently took the MSP Signer Survey on Badging Technology.
The survey showed that the move to the online badge application system has been received positively, and we continue to see growth in the number of online users. A total of 314 Signers took the survey.
A few highlights from the survey’s results:
- 89 percent of survey-takers have used the online signer portal
- 72 percent have used or had an employee use the online badge application process
- Most users who responded appreciate the online system
- 88 percent who have used the online application form would recommend it to others
- 80 percent find the online application process easy to use
We also received suggestions on ways to improve or streamline the application process. We are reviewing those suggestions and will work on various changes going forward.
Thanks again for your participation!
The Badging Office sometimes receives badges returned through the mail, but still in the plastic badge holder.
When the plastic holder, or casing, is in an envelope, sorting machines used by the postal service frequently rip the envelope open, partially or completely. We’ve had empty envelopes show up at the Badging Office.
Please tell employees who are returning a badge through the mail that they need to return only the badge, without the plastic case. The Badging Office can’t mark badges as returned unless we have them on-site.
Thank you for your attention to this item.
