Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) made significant progress in 2021 to continue its recovery from the on-going impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, surpassing 25.2 million total passengers, a 69.6 percent increase over 2020, but still 36.3 percent lower than 2019. In that year, MSP capped 10 years of total passenger growth setting a record of 39.5 million passengers.
“While the rebound in passengers this past year is encouraging, we are still faced with many challenges and uncertainties with air travel because of the continued spread of COVID globally,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which operates MSP. “While MSP saw a stronger rebound in domestic travel and several new destinations this past year, we hope to see a more meaningful recovery in the business and international travel sectors in 2022.”

The creativity and skill of Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) and MSP Airport employees, volunteers, retirees and their families are on full display in the annual “MSP Creates: Airport Community Art Show,” which opened in December in the Concourse C Art Gallery at Terminal 1.
This year, 68 artists submitted 100 works of art for the exhibit’s eleventh installment.
Nearly 1,500 people tuned in to a recent virtual award ceremony to find out who took home the 25 awards given out. That presentation is now available for viewing at the link above.
“MSP Creates enables the artists among us to share their talents with millions of people from all over the world”, said Brian Ryks, executive director and CEO of the MAC. “This demonstrates once again how important the arts are here in Minnesota.”
The exhibit, co-sponsored by the National Arts Program, Arts@MSP, Airport Foundation MSP, and the MAC, will be on display in the Concourse C Art Gallery now through May 27, 2022.
For the second straight year, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) has earned two major industry cleaning and safety facility accreditations as part of its Travel Confidently MSP program.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), which operates MSP, was reaccredited by the GBAC STAR™ program through the Global Biorisk Advisory Council, a Division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association. Airports Council International (ACI) also reaccredited MSP through its Airport Health Accreditation program.
“Accreditation in these programs is important because it demonstrates we are taking all the appropriate actions for cleaning and disinfecting our facilities and for helping to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the MAC, which operates MSP. “To qualify for accreditation, we must meet a rigorous set of health and building safety standards as safeguards against COVID-19 and any future health threats that might arise.”

With January almost in the rear-view mirror, thoughts of spring break travel aren't far away. Are you thinking of a Presidents' Day weekend getaway to warmer weather? Still looking at options for your March or April destination?
MSP Airport continues to solicit input from prospective travelers via a survey that gauges attitudes about and interest in air travel. The answers help shape the MSP travel experience as the COVID-19 era becomes more manageable.
Even if you’ve already taken the survey, please consider taking it again, as your thoughts and answers may have changed over time.
Survey takers have shown interest in MSP's safety initiatives, such as the increased presence of hand sanitizer dispensers, the face mask requirement and the airport’s efforts to increase physical distancing. All of those efforts are part of the airport's Travel Confidently program.
We appreciate your continued interest in helping us make air travel as safe and comfortable as possible.
