The Airport Police Department’s new online application system for security badges continues to be popular. The online system enables faster processing, helps the Badging Office assist more people each day and gets your employees to work faster.
Signers should have already received an email directing them to the new site and the available training materials.
Other benefits of the new process include:
- Paperless applications – Go green!
- Signers can delete applications prior to the applicant coming to the Badging Office if they rescind a job offer
- You can watch the portal to see when your applicant comes to badging, and every step of the way that follows
- Prevents rejections for:
- Expired applications
- Illegible applications
- Rolled up applications that can’t be read or scanned
- Blank fields on an application
- Old versions of applications that are no longer accepted
- Wet applications that are ruined and can’t be processed
Please let us know if you have any questions about the online application process.

Work is underway on a new MSP Airport Badging Office that will include additional badging service stations, a new training room and a secure Information Desk.
Currently located on Level 5 between Red and Blue Parking at Terminal 1, the Badging Office is relocating spring 2022 to Level 3 in the same building. (A rendering of the new office is shown above.)
The newly renovated space will bring in more natural light, and the process to receive or renew a badge will be completed entirely on this level, including the new training room, which will be outfitted with 35 small cubicles for completing computer training modules. The training room will also be linked to the Information Desk area for assistance.
The new location will also include restrooms and a seating area equipped with charging stations for personal devices.
The classroom on Level 4 will be used when necessary and reconfigured to accommodate more than 70 chairs and will have technology to host remote meetings.
We look forward to seeing you on Level 3 as early as May of 2022.
The online Signer Portal is a convenient way to access a wealth of information about your employees' badges.
If you haven’t been to the site, or use it infrequently, we encourage you to get reacquainted with all the tools it offers.
Information available at-a-glance includes:
- Expiration dates, last badge swipe and address on file for individual badges
- Company information– sponsorship expiration dates and contact information
- Monitor expired and terminated badges for return (avoid non-return fee by returning badges on time)
- Ability to run reports on all badge holders and check badge status
- Monitor your pending applicants as they move through the badging process
A recent review of badge expiration dates showed that a significant number of individual employees’ badges are set to expire in December.
Those numbers indicate that next month could lead to heavy traffic at the Badging Office. November has seen a manageable volume of applications at the Badging Office, but we are now anticipating an uptick.
Please inform employees that if they have a badge that is expiring next month, they should set their Badging Office appointment date now, as the calendar may fill up quickly.

Staff at MSP’s security checkpoints continue to see instances of prohibited items showing up in the security screening lines, including the employee portal and staffed field gates on the airfield. We’ve seen steak knives brought for lunch, Leatherman tools, Swiss Army knives and various self-defense weapons.
Please remind employees to check their bags for any prohibited weapons before coming to the screening area. Except for “Tools of the Trade,” any prohibited items found in the security screening process can lead to a requirement to attend security retraining classes, badge suspensions or revocations, and/or criminal citations.
You can find a list of prohibited items here by scrolling down to Section 6.5, and you’re urged to direct employees to that page if they have questions.
As the Badging Office continues to see application activity increase, we continue to experience delays in the processing of Security Threat Assessments (employee background checks). The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) processes the assessments and has informed us that the delays are related to staffing issues, which they continue to work through.
Some applications at MSP have experienced delays of two to three weeks, and applicants who are foreign-born are commonly experiencing the longest delays.
The Badging Office doesn’t control the timeliness of the background checks and appreciates your patience. We continue to work with the TSA to expedite applications as efficiently as possible.
Please keep these delays in mind as you send new hires to the Badging Office.
