Minnesota's Olympians returned home from Tokyo recently, and the pageantry continued as excited fans and family showed up at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) to welcome them.
A crowd was on hand Aug. 5 to greet medal-winning gymnasts Suni Lee, of St. Paul, and Grace McCallum, of Cambridge. (Both pictured below.)
On the evening of Aug. 8, gold medalist freestyle wrestler Gable Steveson, from Apple Valley, had a large fan base welcome him at MSP as well.
MSP and airline staff were happy to help coordinate the athletes' arrivals, which also attracted media coverage.

Other media coverage of the arrivals at MSP is available here (for the gymnasts) and here (for Steveson).

Frontier Airlines recently announced that starting Sept. 9 it will offer non-stop flights between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, increasing competition on a popular route for passengers in the Twin Cities.
The additional route was one of several announced by low-cost carriers in recent weeks at MSP.
Allegiant Air recently announced it is adding non-stop service between MSP and two cities beginning in Oct. -- Destin, Fla. (VPS) and Phoenix-Mesa, Ariz. (AZA).
The low-cost carrier had announced earlier this summer that it would start serving MSP this fall with flights to three cities: Asheville, N.C., Palm Beach, Fla, and Punta Gorda/Fort Myers, Fla., making it the 18th airline operating at MSP.
Also, MSP's direct European routes will expand starting Aug. 31, as KLM Royal Dutch Airlines resumes service to Amsterdam, offering flights three days a week. Visit KLM's website for full flight schedules.

When Peoples Organic restaurant and bar moved into an existing space at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), the retrofit began with a vision and detailed plans for an inviting, bright space with impressive views of the airfield.
Now the results of those plans have been recognized by the Minnesota Real Estate Journal, which recently awarded the work as Minnesota's Best Restaurant Retrofit for 2021.
The restaurant, located in Terminal 1's mall just inside a security checkpoint, is prominently located and includes an easy-access takeout counter, bakery and cafe for travelers watching the clock.
Further into the space customers enjoy a full bar and majestic views of the airfield. Toward the back, visitors can relax in the warm and inviting dining area – flanked with wood and natural accents.

"As passengers return to MSP, they're appreciating the ambiance at Peoples Organic, and the variety of delicious dining options," said Eric Johnson, director of Commercial Management and Airline Affairs for the Metropolitan Airports Commission. Peoples Organic also coordinated with an adjoining restaurant to combine kitchen operations and make more square footage available for a comfortable dining experience.
"Peoples Organic is an efficient, beautiful space that has to be seen to be appreciated," Johnson added.
The restaurant is located just inside the North Security Checkpoint, near the entrance to Concourse E.

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) continues to partner with the State of Minnesota to provide COVID-19 vaccinations at the airport.
The vaccination sites – one at each terminal – use the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine. The vaccine is offered at no cost.
At Terminal 2, the site is pre-security and is open to everyone. At Terminal 1, the site is post-security, meaning it is available only to ticketed passengers with a boarding pass, or to badged MSP employees.
Full information about the vaccination sites is available here.
For passengers looking for a COVID-19 test, MSP offers both a state-provided saliva-testing service (free to residents), and a private, rapid-test service that’s convenient for travelers headed to a destination that requires a negative test result.
Full information about both COVID-19 testing options is available at this website.

Summer is reaching its conclusion, but the appetite for air travel remains and we want to know what you're thinking as we move toward autumn.
MSP Airport is soliciting input from would-be travelers via a survey that gauges attitudes about and interest in air travel. The answers help shape the MSP travel experience as the COVID-19 era begins to wane.
Even if you’ve already taken the survey, please feel free to take it again, as your thoughts and answers may have changed over time.
Survey takers have shown interest in MSP's safety initiatives, such as the increased presence of hand sanitizer dispensers, the face mask requirement and the airport’s efforts to increase physical distancing. All of those efforts are part of the airport's Travel Confidently program.
Thank you for your continued interest in helping us make air travel as safe and comfortable as possible.
