As the summer travel season starts to heat up, airlines are expanding route options for your next excursion.
Southwest Airlines recently announced plans to launch year-round service from MSP to Austin, Texas six times per week starting June 6. That complements Southwest’s service to Houston Hobby Airport that started last month – the first time MSP has had a direct flight to Hobby, located 10 miles from downtown Houston.
Also, Delta Air Lines kicked off its service to Mexico City on Cinco de Mayo (May 5), providing non-stop flights to the city with a population of almost 9 million and many draws for both business and leisure travelers.
And later this month, Delta will launch service to Reykjavik, Iceland. Starting May 26, Delta’s nonstop flights will provide access to the island gem of the North Atlantic.
If you’re flying out of MSP Airport for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend, you may be thinking about how to minimize touchpoints along the way. Prebooked Parking at Terminal 1 is a great way to use your own vehicle and ensure a contact-free commute to the airport.
When you pre-book your parking, you are guaranteed a place to park in your ramp of choice. The QR code you receive in your confirmation is all you need to enter and exit the ramp. And you can now download the QR code directly to your mobile phone.
Also, those using Prebooked Parking will receive significant savings over the drive-up rate -- saving $7 a day on Daily parking -- between Friday, May 28 – Monday, May 31.

Bicyclists can now travel directly to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport's Terminal 1, thanks to the completion last year of the Silver Ramp.
A direct bike route to MSP is available now that Northwest Drive – which parallels Hwy. 5 – was extended past the InterContinental Hotel MSP Airport to the Silver Ramp.
This route also services buses and off-airport parking shuttles that pick up and drop off travelers at the new Transit Center, which is also home to all rental car services at Terminal 1 and is located just above the light rail stop.
On the ground level of the Transit Center are several new covered bike racks. A Dero Fixit | Public Bike Repair Station is also available nearby.
This updated bike map provides the bike routes to both Terminals 1 and 2. Bicyclists coming from the west must take 34th Avenue and Post Road. Bikers from the east and south will need to travel on bike paths through the wonders of Fort Snelling State Park and the Minnesota River valley.
And, if the weather isn't cooperating, bicyclists can always bring their bikes on to light rail trains and buses to get to the airport.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is extending the REAL ID full enforcement deadline to May 3, 2023. The deadline was previously set for later this year.
The REAL ID requirement will affect airline passengers at MSP, as REAL ID-compliant identification will be required for all domestic commercial flights.
Beginning May 3, 2023, Minnesotans will not be able to use their standard driver's license to board domestic flights or enter federal facilities. Instead, they will need a REAL ID, enhanced driver's license or ID card, passport or passport card or another acceptable form of identification for federal purposes.
“Protecting the health, safety, and security of our communities is our top priority," said DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. “As our country continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, extending the REAL ID full enforcement deadline will give states needed time to reopen their driver's licensing operations and ensure their residents can obtain a REAL ID-compliant license or identification card."

The summer travel season is right around the corner, getaway options are expanding as airlines add more routes, and we want to know about your plans.
MSP Airport continues to solicit input from would-be travelers via a survey that gauges attitudes toward air travel. The answers help shape the MSP travel experience in the COVID-19 era.
Even if you’ve already taken the survey, please feel free to take it again, as people's thoughts and answers change over time.
Recent survey results have shown that 54 percent of travelers would be willing to travel tomorrow, and passenger numbers at the airport indicate that number is rising along with vaccination rates.
Our survey takers continue to be most interested in MSP's safety initiatives, such as the increased presence of hand sanitizer dispensers, the face mask requirement and the airport’s efforts to increase physical distancing. All of those efforts are part of the airport's Travel Confidently program.
Thank you for your continued interest in helping us make air travel as safe and comfortable as possible.
