The Metropolitan Airports Commission’s (MAC) 2020 Annual Report is now available online, providing an overview of the MAC’s operations during a most challenging year.
Much of the report covers the MAC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which included a variety of strategies like the Travel Confidently MSP program, providing financial relief to various business partners, and managing its finances in sustainable fashion to be well-prepared for the aviation industry’s recovery.
The MAC’s six reliever – or general aviation – airports in the Twin Cities area also found ways to thrive during the pandemic.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is extending the REAL ID full enforcement deadline to May 3, 2023. The deadline was previously set for later this year.
The REAL ID requirement will affect airline passengers at MSP, as REAL ID-compliant identification will be required for all domestic commercial flights.
Beginning May 3, 2023, Minnesotans will not be able to use their standard driver's license to board domestic flights or enter federal facilities. Instead, they will need a REAL ID, enhanced driver's license or ID card, passport or passport card or another acceptable form of identification for federal purposes.
“Protecting the health, safety, and security of our communities is our top priority," said DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. “As our country continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, extending the REAL ID full enforcement deadline will give states needed time to reopen their driver's licensing operations and ensure their residents can obtain a REAL ID-compliant license or identification card."

As passenger numbers rebound at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), concessionaires and other service providers at the airport are ramping up hiring.
Evidence of this trend is the increasing numbers of job openings posted on the MSP Airport Job Board. Airlines, restaurants and cleaning services are among the types of businesses now hiring.
If you or someone you know is looking for a job or a change in employment, either full-time or part-time, the airport is a great place to work. Many of the positions provide high wages and benefits. And new jobs are added regularly, so check back frequently for the latest job openings.
Also, MSP will be participating in two virtual job fairs next month -- on Tuesday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 18. Details about how to participate in those job fairs will be provided on this web page in coming weeks.

In April, when we celebrate Earth Day, and throughout the year, the presence of public recycling receptacles at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is a visible indication of the airport’s commitment to keeping plastic, paper and cardboard out of the waste stream.
Behind the scenes, however, large amounts of other materials are also channeled into recycling alternatives. The products result from everyday activities at the airport, including cooking, painting and construction. In the calendar year of 2020, MSP recycled:
- 16.4 tons of used automotive oil
- 1.6 tons of used oil filters
- 144 tons of pallets
- 1.9 tons of latex paint
- 5.47 tons of fluorescent and HID (high-intensity discharge) lamps
- 10.27 tons of tires
- 19 tons of e-waste (including computers, monitors, printers, cell phones and other similar items)
- 39 tons of used cooking oil
- 77.8 tons scrap metal
MSP appreciates when travelers recycle their paper and aluminum products while traveling through the airport. Additional information about the airport’s environmental sustainability efforts is available at this web page and at the Metropolitan Airports Commission's sustainability website.
Getaway options are expanding and we want to know what you're thinking as the summer travel season approaches.
MSP Airport continues to solicit input from would-be travelers via a survey that gauges attitudes toward air travel. The answers help shape the MSP travel experience in the COVID-19 era.
Even if you’ve already taken the survey, please feel free to take it again, as people's thoughts and answers change over time.

Recent survey results have shown that 54 percent of travelers would be willing to travel tomorrow.
Our survey takers continue to be most interested in MSP's safety initiatives, such as the increased presence of hand sanitizer dispensers, the face mask requirement and the airport’s efforts to increase physical distancing. All of those efforts are part of the airport's Travel Confidently program.
Thank you for your continued interest in helping us make air travel as safe and comfortable as possible.
