Any time an MSP Airport employee changes their name on a badge application or renewal, signers should ask for supporting documents -- such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court papers approving a name change. Those documents help to expedite the badging process.
Technically, those documents are not required. But as badging applications move through the approval process, the TSA has frequently sent letters to employees seeking additional documentation of name changes.
If those documents are part of the initial application paperwork forwarded to the TSA, the process is smoother and the employee can have the badge in-hand sooner.
Please keep an eye out for applications from employees who have changed their name. Reach out to the Badging Office if you have questions.

The Badging Office frequently sees badge applications for employees who work for more than one employer at MSP Airport.
When a signer processes a badge application from an employee in that situation, make sure to only approve the type of badge that the employee needs for your company.
Some concessions employees, for instance, only need a blue badge, but may apply for a SIDA badge related to another position.
“You can only sign off on what the employee needs for your company,” said Anne Thurston, the Airport Police Department’s badging supervisor. “You can’t sign for a type of badge that your employee doesn’t need.”
Please review applications closely and be aware of your employee’s status at the airport with other employers.
Most travelers and employees at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) are complying with the federal, state and airport face-mask requirement meant to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
While the state and the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) had already mandated employees and visitors to wear face masks while at MSP, in January President Biden issued an executive order requiring masks to be worn in U.S. airports, on commercial airliners, and on airport property, and Homeland Security is requiring the TSA to implement that order.
Face masks are now required in ALL areas of the MSP Airport campus, including the airfield, tenant buildings, parking ramps, all locations in both terminals, and other employee worksites.
Please communicate to your badged and any non-badged employees that the requirement to wear a face mask does NOT apply under the following circumstances:
- When necessary to temporarily remove the mask for identity verification purposes
- When actively eating or drinking
- While communicating with a person who is deaf or hard of hearing, who needs to see your mouth
- When a driver, operating a commercial motor vehicle, is the sole occupant of the vehicle
- Children under the age of 2
- People with disabilities who cannot wear a mask, or cannot safely wear a mask, because of the disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act
- People for whom wearing a mask would create a risk to workplace health, safety, or job duty as determined by the relevant workplace safety guidelines or federal regulations.
- Individuals working alone in private offices at airports are exempt
Beyond these exemptions, refusal to wear a mask in or on the airport is a violation of federal law. Individuals may be subject to penalties under federal law and removal from the airport.

When employees use a badge to get through a door at the airport they must make sure that door closes after they walk through.
Recently, Airport Police have received reports of secure doors left open or slightly ajar after employees swipe through with their security badges. This has happened on both interior doors and exterior doors out on the ramp.
Employees are not typically leaving them open intentionally. The doors can inadvertently be left open because they get caught on something that’s broken, the wind keeps them from sealing shut, or air pressure near a jet bridge may hold them open.
Please remind your employees to look for the red light that comes on after they get through the door. This light signals that the door is closed and secure.
Employees who experience a door that’s not closing properly should immediately alert the MAC Emergency Communications Center by dialing 612-726-5577. That number is also on a sign next to all the doors that have secured access card readers. Employees are required to remain near the door until a police officer is dispatched to the location. The MAC will facilitate the repair.
