Recently, the MSP Airport Police Department (APD) has been responding with increasing frequency to instances of airport badge holders voicing their frustration with the security screening process to TSA agents or security officers, or interfering with the screening process.
Incidents have occurred at the TSA checkpoints, the employee portal and other screening locations on the airport campus, such as staffed field gates on the airfield.
The APD is asking for your assistance by reminding badge holders that security personnel are there to protect them and the traveling public, and that interfering with the screening process in any way is a serious issue.
Specifically, a section of the airport’s security ordinance says that “No person shall harass, intimidate, assault or interfere with Screening Personnel in the performance of their duties.” Penalties for violating the ordinance vary by the level of severity and may include suspension or revocation of a security badge -- which commonly leads to the loss of a job. Access rights to the employee portal could also be revoked.
We understand that people are more stressed than ever for many reasons, but they cannot take it out on security screeners.
The APD appreciates you reminding your employees to bring a cooperative spirit with them to work, and use it with airport security personnel.
