MSP's Lost and Found office goes digital

lost and found 2

MSP Airport’s Lost and Found office is skilled at helping passengers rid themselves of that sinking feeling when they've realized they left an item somewhere in the airport.

The office’s staff has an excellent record of reuniting customers with their cherished items. Now travelers have the added convenience of inquiring about their items online.

“The best part of the work we do at Lost and Found is knowing we’ve put a passenger at ease about a lost item,” said Jeff Nawrocki, the MAC’s assistant director of Landside Operations, which runs the Lost and Found office. “Going digital helps us sort through claims faster and get items back in the owner’s hands as quickly as possible.”

When you visit the airport’s Lost and Found web page, you’ll find a link to the online form, where you’ll provide information about your lost item. The form includes easy drop-down menus to help guide you through the details. You can access the webpage on your cell phone, tablet or other electronic device.

Staff closely monitor the online submissions during the office’s business hours -- the same way they monitor phone calls -- and they’ll use the contact information you provide to get back to you. The more information you can provide the better.

And don’t worry, if you need to talk with someone, you can still call the office and get a live person.

The airport’s Lost and Found office is located on the pre-security side of Terminal 1 on the Valet level, which is a lower level in the middle of the terminal. Take the elevators located in the middle of the ticketing or baggage claim level down to the Valet level and turn left to find Lost and Found.

The office does mail items to travelers no longer in the Twin Cities area. Shipping via FedEx can be arranged at the website.

Lost and Found Office hours

  • Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Phone number: 612-726-5141.

REAL ID office reopens at Terminal 1

real id

Minnesota air travelers flying out of MSP Airport’s Terminal 1 are again able to save themselves a trip to a DVS, deputy registrar or driver’s license agent office and apply for their REAL ID at the airport.

On Sept. 1, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services division (DPS-DVS)  reopened the REAL ID office inside the secure area of Terminal 1 in the Airport Mall area -- across from Stone Arch restaurant near the entrance to Concourse G. The office, which was temporarily closed earlier this year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, provides a convenient way for air travelers to get their questions answered and apply for their REAL ID.

The office accepts REAL ID applications Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment only. Minnesotans should pre-apply and then make an appointment at Terminal 1 by visiting this link. You must be a ticketed passenger for the day you make your appointment. More information can be found at drive.mn.gov.

Minnesotans wishing to use their State ID to board a domestic commercial flight after October 1, 2021 will need to have a REAL ID or other compliant form of identification. Learn more here

As with all indoor public areas in Minnesota, face coverings are required at MSP and while visiting the REAL ID office at Terminal 1.

Metro Transit route 54 bus stop moves to new transit center

transit center 3

Metro Transit's eastbound route 54 bus service recently began dropping off and picking up passengers at MSP Airport's new Terminal 1 Transit Center on the first floor of the partially opened Silver Ramp. (Metro Transit provides public bus service in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area.)

The route 54 bus formerly picked up and dropped off passengers on the Upper East Roadway of Terminal 1 – located two levels above Level T.

To reach the Silver Ramp and Transit Center from Terminal 1:

  1. Take the underground tram - located on Level T - toward the Red, Blue and Silver parking ramps and the light rail station.

  2. Exit the tram and follow the signs for rental cars and the Transit Center.

  3. After entering the building, take an escalator or elevator up one level to reach the Transit Center. Signs will guide you.

Because of the ongoing reconstruction of Hwy. 5 near the airport, route 54 buses from Terminal 1 are only available to eastbound passengers.

Currently -- and lasting through October 2020 -- westbound route 54 service will detour away from Hwy. 5 and will not stop at Terminal 1. Westbound passengers can visit Metro Transit’s route 54 web page for transfer instructions to get to Terminal 1.

The new Silver Ramp at Terminal 1 partially opened in August with improved transit and rental car facilities.

Metro Transit's route 54 bus service joins several other transit services making the move to the first floor of the ramp including:

  • All rental car services
  • Off-airport parking shuttles
  • All bus services, including Jefferson Lines, Landline and charter buses.

Virtual story time added to MSP airport's art offerings

Ely Eagle

For years, visitors to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport have enjoyed visual arts and music and dance performances in the terminals, coordinated by Arts@MSP.

Now, Minnesota authors have been added to the mix with virtual book readings on Arts@MSP's
YouTube,  Facebook, Instagram and Stay Creative channels on the first Wednesday of every month.

"Story Hour" began this summer featuring local author Kao Kalia Yang reading from her children's book "The Shared Room." That was followed in August by author Debra Cotterman, an employee of Delaware North, from her children's book, "Ely Eagle Learns to Fly."

Recently, author Tom Glaser joined the list with a reading from his book, Full Heart Living

"We were looking for ways to connect with airport visitors virtually after all our performances were cancelled because of the coronavirus. I also knew that a lot of kids were at home doing virtual learning and that this could keep them occupied – even though not all of our authors are children's authors," said Youa Vang, performing arts coordinator for the Arts@MSP program, a partnership between the MAC and the Airport Foundation MSP.

Eventually, Vang hopes to have the authors read in the Airport Mall gallery just outside the new food court. For now, the readings remain virtual.

Other authors in the series include Carleen Matts Behrens, Chan Poling, Mary Casanova and Lisa Shaffner Sohn.

"Arts@MSP has focused a lot on performing artists in the past but we can't forget about writers," said Vang. "They create worlds with words, and that is another form of art that needs to be celebrated."

Travel on your mind? Tell us your plans

Each month, we are asking for your feedback through a quick three-minute survey

Some travelers have taken to the air again; others are still gauging their comfort level with a flight experience. Wherever you’re at with your travel plans, MSP has been busy putting new strategies in place to keep all airport visitors safe and healthy. That includes airport employees and airline passengers.

We want to know your expectations regarding air travel; both your plans in the near term and down the road. Your input will help guide our next steps. And we're tracking traveler sentiment over time, so if you took the survey earlier, feel free to take it again.

Thank you for your help in making air travel safe and comfortable.
