Discover savings and convenience with new Prebooked Parking

pre book parking

With the recent launch of Prebooked Parking at MSP Airport, travelers departing from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) can now book parking before they fly, ensuring access to their parking ramp of choice and saving $2 per day on posted drive-up rates.

The online parking system is the latest in a series of improvements to create a seamless one-journey experience at MSP. Parking at Terminal 1 will often fill to capacity for a short period on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and throughout busy travel seasons, but the new system will save room for you even if the ramp is full.

“We are excited to offer this amenity to our customers,” said Jeff Nawrocki, assistant director of Landside Operations at the Metropolitan Airports Commission. “With prebooking, we can offer peace of mind and ensure a smooth parking experience.”

How it works

At least 24 hours before you plan to arrive at MSP visit the Prebooked Parking website. Enter your airline to identify your departure terminal and the date and time you intend to enter and exit the parking ramp. The website will then offer up several parking options – each with a $2 per day discount.

Parking products available for prebooking include:

  • Terminal 1 Daily: MSP’s most popular parking option with over 12,500 spots conveniently connected to Terminal 1 via skyway or tram.
  • Terminal 2 Value: Features skyway connection to Terminal 2 and free light-rail transit to Terminal 1.
  • Quick Ride Ramp: MSP’s most economical option with a shuttle that serves both terminals.

Select your option and enter your credit card information. You’ll then receive an email with a QR code that you can either print or retain on your mobile phone. When you arrive at your selected parking ramp, scan the QR code to enter the ramp. The same QR code will allow you to exit the ramp upon your return.

The Prebooked Parking system, which is free to use, is just one of several parking improvements underway at MSP. The new Silver Ramp, which will bring 5,000 more parking spaces to Terminal 1, opens in 2020.

MAC plans new Public Safety Coordination Center

Oregon Congressman Peter DeFazio, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and committee member U.S. Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota’s 2nd District visited with MAC Chair Rick King recently to discuss funding for the planned MSP Public Safety Coordination Center.

The new facility will consolidate into one building public safety and key operational functions that are now spread across the MSP campus.

Specifically, Airport Police, Fire Station 2, the Emergency Communications Center and Airside Operations will be housed together in the new building. Those departments will form the core of a new Airport Operations Center, which will also include representatives from other Operations departments.

There will also be space in the Airport Operations Center for representatives from federal agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration and Customs and Border Protection.

“Right now, with everyone spread out, it takes time to communicate and develop a coordinated response to an incident,” said MAC Chair Rick King. “In the new facility, people from across the organization will be stationed together permanently, not just in emergencies, so we can make decisions and respond to incidents immediately.”

The discussion with Representatives DeFazio and Craig was an opportunity for Chair King to brief them on the MAC’s plan and to help them understand the need for federal participation in funding such facilities.

The facility is consistent with the direction of the Transportation Security Administration’s National Framework for Public Area Security.

Developed in response to terrorist attacks at Brussels International and Istanbul Ataturk airports, the framework calls for establishment of full-time airport operations centers to “enable coordinated interagency responses for day-to-day operations and, most importantly, facilitate instantaneous and coordinated responses to emergency situations.”

MSP wins honors from J.D. Power and Conde Nast

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) continues to receive strong reviews from travelers, as evidenced by two recent studies of customer satisfaction.

The J.D. Power 2019 North America Airport Satisfaction Study placed MSP at the No. 2 slot among the nation’s largest airports.

The J.D. Power study noted that new localized food and beverage options were trending – including at MSP. Some of the most recent restaurant openings with Minnesota roots include Leeann Chin, PinKU, The Cook & The Ox, Hi-Lo Diner, and a dozen others that have opened in the last two years or will before the end of the year.

MSP also garnered a fourth-place finish in the Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, the result of 600,000 readers weighing in on their favorite airports.

The luxury and lifestyle travel magazine noted MSP’s recent makeover of its concessions offerings as a reason for its popularity.
