Minnesota air travelers have less than a year to obtain a “REAL ID” Minnesota driver’s license or identification (ID) card if they want to use one to board a commercial flight in the U.S. after Oct. 1, 2020.
(A valid U.S. passport, military ID or enhanced ID can be used after that date regardless of whether an individual has a REAL ID, however.)
“The clock is ticking, and our message today is very clear,” said Roy Fuhrmann, chief operating officer for the Metropolitan Airports Commission at a Sept. 25 press conference with state and federal officials at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. “It's critically important for our flying public to have REAL ID to make sure they don’t get turned away at the checkpoint for not having one.”

With the recent launch of Prebooked Parking at MSP Airport, travelers departing from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) can now book parking before they fly, ensuring access to their parking ramp of choice and saving $2 per day on posted drive-up rates.
The online parking system is the latest in a series of improvements to create a seamless one-journey experience at MSP. Parking at Terminal 1 will often fill to capacity for a short period on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and throughout busy travel seasons, but the new system will save room for you even if the ramp is full.
“We are excited to offer this amenity to our customers,” said Jeff Nawrocki, assistant director of Landside Operations at the Metropolitan Airports Commission. “With prebooking, we can offer peace of mind and ensure a smooth parking experience.”

How it works
At least 24 hours before you plan to arrive at MSP visit the Prebooked Parking website. Enter your airline to identify your departure terminal and the date and time you intend to enter and exit the parking ramp. The website will then offer up several parking options – each with a $2 per day discount.
Parking products available for prebooking include:
- Terminal 1 Daily: MSP’s most popular parking option with over 12,500 spots conveniently connected to Terminal 1 via skyway or tram.
- Terminal 2 Value: Features skyway connection to Terminal 2 and free light-rail transit to Terminal 1.
- Quick Ride Ramp: MSP’s most economical option with a shuttle that serves both terminals.
Select your option and enter your credit card information. You’ll then receive an email with a QR code that you can either print or retain on your mobile phone. When you arrive at your selected parking ramp, scan the QR code to enter the ramp. The same QR code will allow you to exit the ramp upon your return.
The Prebooked Parking system, which is free to use, is just one of several parking improvements underway at MSP. The new Silver Ramp, which will bring 5,000 more parking spaces to Terminal 1, opens in 2020.
Delta Air Lines’ passengers will notice that the skycaps who used to check bags curbside in front of Terminal 1 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport are now located on the east curbside, closer to Terminal 1’s parking ramps.
Ongoing renovation work to Terminal 1 required the move to the east curbside.
For drop-offs, watch the overhead signs as you drive on the inbound roadway. The signs direct drivers to their left-hand turn after driving up the ramp to Terminal 1’s departures level, turning onto the same roadway that also facilitates Uber and Lyft pick-ups.
Drive beyond those pick-up areas and look on the left side of the road for the sign (pictured) marking Delta’s skycap service, which is located at Door 8.
The curbside skycap service is available from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., seven days a week.
Delta also recently opened a new passenger check-in counter just inside that same departures level of the east curbside building, giving Delta passengers an additional option for checking their bags.
Once on the east curbside roadway, an overhead sign near Door 6 guides drivers to the Delta drop-off area.
The new location provides easy check-in access for Delta customers who are being dropped off, or who are coming from the parking ramps, the Blue Line light rail or from dropping off their rental car.
The indoor check-in counter is open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, subject to passenger volumes.

The Cook & The Ox , a new dining option that offers full-service steak dinners, has opened in the airport mall at Terminal 1, just inside the North Security Checkpoint.
The premier steakhouse - equipped with a full bar - offers true Minnesota hospitality and bold flavors from local James Beard-nominated chef Jack Riebel.
The restaurant’s extensive menu includes: steaks with a variety of toppings including herb butter, sautéed mushrooms or caramelized BBQ onions; salmon, walleye and fish and chips; lobster mac and cheese and lobster poutine; soups and salads; burgers and sandwiches; and an extensive wine and cocktail menu.
The Cook & the Ox also offers a full breakfast menu with hearty skillets, breakfast sandwiches and a collection of bloody marys and other drinks to complement every meal.
 The Ticket Lobby at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s (MSP) Terminal 1 recently became a lot more colorful with the addition of 25 “Tyvek art scrolls” created by St. Paul-based artist Anne Labovitz. MSP’s Terminal 2 will get the same treatment later this fall.
At Terminal 1, the 2.5-feet-wide scrolls – which are between 25- and 45-feet long – are located on the east-facing construction wall in the middle of the lobby. The wall conceals construction of new restrooms that will open early next year. At Terminal 2, the artwork will be installed later this fall on the east-facing wall between the ticket counters and Checkpoint 1.
The scrolls were created by Labovitz – originally from Duluth, Minn. – for her recent international exhibition, “122 Conversations: Person to Person, Art Beyond Borders.”
The project resulted in 70 sculptural scrolls based on 60 interviews with people from Duluth and its five sister cities: Petrozavodsk, Russia; Rania, Iraqi Kurdistan; Växjö, Sweden; Thunder Bay, Canada; and Ohara Isumi-City, Japan.
Labovitz said the interviews covered “topics of love, community change and generosity.” The scrolls were then exhibited in Duluth and its international sister cities.
“These paintings are an interpretation of those conversations,” said Sam Fuentes, exhibitions coordinator for the Arts@MSP program.

Since Oct. 8, all travelers departing Terminal 1 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport have been able to choose either the North or South security checkpoints in Terminal 1.
Use of the South Checkpoint had been reserved for travelers with TSA PreCheck since Aug. 19 due to a nearby construction project that was expected to continue until mid-December.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) altered construction phasing and returned both checkpoints to their pre-Aug. 19 status, two months earlier than planned. The MAC also increased the number of workers available to direct travelers to the correct line.
In addition, Security Checkpoint 10, located between the Blue and Red parking ramps and opening onto the skyway connecting Concourses C and G, is now also available for passengers who only have carry-on bags. The checkpoint is open Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
