An artist internationally known for large scale, technology-driven, interactive artwork was selected recently to create a major piece for Terminal 1-Lindbergh at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP).
Jen Lewin will design the piece, which will be visible on both the airport’s baggage claim and ticketing levels. A new opening between the levels is being developed as part of a multi-year project to expand and modernize the front of the terminal.
Anyone who is interested in meeting Lewin and sharing elements of their Minnesota experience with her will have that opportunity at three upcoming community meetings.
- Thursday, June 7, 6-8 p.m., at the Weisman Art Museum, William Shepherd Room, on the University of Minnesota's East Bank campus.
- Friday, June 8, 6-8 p.m., Weisman Art Museum, William Shepherd Room
- Saturday, June 9, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Northrop Auditorium, Best Buy Theater, also on the University of Minnesota's East Bank campus.

A blue ribbon artist selection committee chose Lewin through a vetting process that included an invitation to 59 artists experienced in creating this type of large-scale public work. Lewin will be assisted in the process by a Minnesota artist who she will mentor as part of the project.
“With Jen’s help, we have an opportunity to install an engaging artwork that will reflect the airport and the region, help transform the arrivals and departures lobbies and, over time, become an iconic symbol of MSP,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC).
Lewin already has experience creating interactive pieces in Minnesota; she designed the sidewalk harp located near Target Field. People walking by that piece can make music by waving their hands under a series of LED lights.

JetBlue recently kicked off service at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), with the airline’s inaugural flight from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) touching down just before 9:00 a.m. on May 3.
The new flights in the Twin Cities mark the first-ever scheduled JetBlue service in Minnesota and bring a new option for travelers with the airline operating the route three times daily.

The new service is one of 44 new routes added at MSP by 11 airlines since 2016. There are currently 163 destinations served out of MSP.
All Minneapolis flights will be operated on JetBlue’s Airbus A320 aircraft featuring comfortable seating; complimentary unlimited name-brand snacks; more than 100 channels of free SIRIUSXM® radio programming; 36 channels of free, live DIRECTV® programming on personal seatback televisions; and free high-speed wireless Internet.
A newly expanded Caribou Coffee recently re-opened on Concourse F at MSP, marking the first unit to open in the airport’s second phase of new concessions.
The Caribou’s new design brings more daylight to the area and additional space for patrons. The shop is open daily from 4 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The MAC’s concessions team is working with businesses to open 30 new restaurants in coming months, bringing a wide range of delicious dining options for travelers.
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s popular aircraft viewing area is basking in spring sunshine again, and it’s worth your while to stop by.
The outdoor facility on the west side of the airport offers great views of the airfield. Parking is free and picnic tables at the site offer a great place to gather and watch the runway action.
The area is already well known to aircraft enthusiasts. For those who are new to the airfield, a display case holds a poster that includes a list of planes that frequently visit MSP, with information and photos to help you identify more than 20 types of aircraft.
The viewing area is open from dawn to dusk.
To get there from the intersection of 66th and Cedar Avenue in Richfield, go east on 66th Street and then south on Longfellow Avenue, which is the frontage road along Cedar Avenue. Watch for a sign directing you to take a left to the aircraft viewing area.

Members of the Transportation Security Administration’s Pre-Check expedited screening program can now use that service when flying out of MSP on Condor Airlines.
Condor’s parent company, the Thomas Cook Group, recently announced its partnership with the TSA at 15 U.S. airports. Condor's U.S. locations fly into Frankfurt, and from there the airline offers connections to 120 additional destinations in Europe and beyond.
TSA Pre-Check allows travelers to move through security without removing shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 compliant liquids or belts. The program costs $85 for five years. Information on how to sign up for TSA Pre-Check is available here.

Sun Country Airlines will begin offering seasonal service from MSP’s Terminal 2 to Honolulu on May 19. Passengers departing MSP will have a short stop at Los Angeles International Airport before continuing on to Hawaii.
The new service flies four times per week, Friday through Monday, and runs through Aug. 19, 2018.
“The addition of Honolulu to the family of Sun Country destinations gives our travelers the opportunity to experience the unique culture and history of Hawaii,” says Jude Bricker, Sun Country Airlines’ president and CEO.”
