New cultural exhibits open at MSP

sportsart

The ARTS@MSP program recently opened a new exhibit titled “Best Game in the World,” featuring a wide array of vintage photos, facts and memorabilia from Minnesota’s own wide world of sports.

From Native American games in the era prior to statehood, to the popularity of fishing on our 10,000 lakes and the recent decades of major league sports, Minnesota’s passion for sport is on display at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP).

The exhibit is located on Concourse C in the Thomson-Reuters Gallery, just past Vino Volo. Step off the moving walkway and take in the treasures that will inform and bring back memories. The exhibit will be on display through December 2018.

Also new to the airport this month is the “Transfer of Memory” exhibit, which focuses on Holocaust survivors living in Minnesota. A short biography in the survivor’s own words accompanies each photograph.

The exhibit is found in two locations at MSP – near gate C18 at Terminal 1 and, starting mid-December, at Terminal 2-Humphrey in newly established gallery space near Gate H3.

Minnesota Shopping Center Assoc. awards MSP for design work

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s (MSP) ongoing revitalization of its retail environment won accolades from a professional association recently for the project’s design aesthetics.

The Metropolitan Airports Commissions’ (MAC) team from its Concessions and Business Development office accepted the awards from the Minnesota Shopper Center Association for interior design.

The Association selected the extensive renovation associated with the “MSP Reimagined” program for the “Design and Aesthetics Renovation/Remodel: Interior Retail over 15,000 square feet” award category.

MSP has opened 50 new concessions in the last two years, each involving remodeling and design work.

One of those new airport retailers -- Angel Food Bakery and Donut Bar -- was also recognized by the Association. Angel Food won the interior design award in the Quick Service/Fast Casual/Fast Food division.

“In the last two years, MSP has transformed its commercial space to bring on-trend products to the 38 million travelers who pass through the airport each year,” said Liz Grzechowiak, the assistant director of concessions and business development for the MAC. “We’re honored that our team’s efforts and the resulting design work are being recognized by the MSCA.”

Airport staff coordinated the remodeling work to provide consistent services to travelers, using a phased approach to construction. An informational campaign also kept travelers in the loop.

More concessions are on the way as the MSP team is now working on the second round of renovation involving more than 30 new restaurant concepts.

Santa’s elves are on the loose at MSP! You can help Santa track down those cotton-headed ninny-muggins by taking an “elfie” with them when you find them and sharing it with #MSPAirport on your social media channel of choice.

If you have a layover at the airport or your kids are antsy, it’s a great way to get in the holiday spirit. Click on the video to see Santa’s pleas for help.
