Olmsted County Veteran Services continues to respond to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak as the number of reported cases in Minnesota increase.  We are working closely with Olmsted County Public Health, Minnesota Department of Health, Public Safety, the CDC and others for latest information and guidance.  Our priority is to protect the health and safety of all Veteran we serve and our employees.

We are adopting the State of Minnesota community mitigation strategies to limit the spread of COVID-19.

 Recommended postponing and canceling:

Events where 50 people or more would gather, including, but not limited to:

     *Concerts

     *Conferences

*Professional, college and school performances or sporting events.

Smaller events (fewer than 50 people) that are held in crowded auditoriums, rooms or other venues that do not allow social distancing of 6 feet per person.

Events with more than 10 people where the majority of participants are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19, including gatherings such as those at:

     *Retirement facilities

     *Assisted Living facilities

     *Developmental homes

*Support groups for people with health conditions

THEREFORE, Olmsted County Veteran Services will file "Intent to File" paperwork and initiate appeals paperwork.  ALL other issues, you should call the office at (507) 328-6355 to discuss with a CVSO before stopping by.

Intent to File preserves the effective date of a potential claim.  You will have up to one year, from the date the VA receives your intent to file, to submit a formal claim.

There are three other ways to file an "Intent to File"

  1.  Go online through e-benefits at www.ebenefits.va.gov and follow this process:

     * Initiate a claim

     * Complete the personal information page

     * Hit save to establish your effective date.  This allows you one year to  formalize

        your claim.

  2.  Submit, by mail, VA Form 21-0966 (Intent to File a Claim for Compensation  and/or pension, or Survivors Pension and/or DIC).  You can access this form at:

www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/VBA-21-0966-ARE.pdf

  3.  Over the phone or in person

  4.  Call the VA National Call Center at (800) 827-1000
