Get To Know OHE: Get Ready

Get Ready is a federally funded college and career readiness program administered through the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. The program helps students from low-income backgrounds, indigenous communities, and communities of color realize their aspirations through education and career advancement. Get Ready operates in middle and high schools across Minnesota.

This time of year, Get Ready is in the middle of implementing their curriculum in schools across the state. This curriculum is designed to help middle and high school students build skills and knowledge for extending their education beyond high school. Each lesson within the curriculum is 50 minutes in length, and students move through 20 to 25 lessons each year. Built into the curriculum are student projects to reinforce the program’s core concepts of identity, educational success, and career development.

How Has COVID-19 Affected Projections for the Minnesota State Grant?

The most recent Minnesota State Grant Projections report is out and it highlights some of the potential impacts that the pandemic may have on State Grant spending. The State Grant is the largest financial aid program administered by the Office of Higher Education (OHE), awarding up to $210 million in need-based grants to Minnesota residents attending eligible colleges, universities and career schools in Minnesota

Due to continued changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, OHE has prepared two possible spending estimates. The spending projection for fiscal year 2022 ranges from $185.079 million to $200.598 million, and the spending projection for fiscal year 2023 ranges from $189.102 million to $206.289 million. Total spending for the biennium is projected to range from $374.182 million and $406.888 million. This compares to base resources of $414.874 million for the biennium. The difference between base resources and total spending ranges from positive $13.186 million to $45.892 million or 3.1%-10.9% below appropriations.
