The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) is now accepting applications for the CanRenew community restoration grant program, which invests in communities disproportionately affected by cannabis prohibition.
The $10.9 million program, established in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 342, invests in community development, safety and stability. The application window is now open and will close on January 12, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. CST.
-
Tier 1: Grantees will be awarded between $2,500 and $10,000. This tier is for newer, smaller investments and provides a more accessible pathway to state funding. While this tier is geared towards organizations that are newer to state funding, any organization is welcome to apply.
-
Tier 2: Award amounts will be between $50,000 and $2,000,000. Organizations that are awarded a tier 2 grant will have the ability to implement larger projects. Finalists will undergo a financial and capacity risk assessment in compliance with Minnesota Statutes, section 16B.981, which will also inform monitoring requirements during the grant period.
Eligible organizations include: nonprofits, federally recognized Tribes, educational institutions, local governments, private businesses, community groups, and partnerships between any of these types of organizations.
CanRenew funds community-oriented projects focused on economic development, improving social determinants of health, violence prevention, civil legal aid, and youth engagement. Funds cannot be used for cannabis business operations or revenue-generating projects; applications requesting funds for these purposes will be disqualified.
