Office of Cannabis Management to host social equity verification workshop
Minneapolis – The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) will host a training on how to complete the social equity verification process, the first step potential social equity applicants need to take to be considered in this summer’s launch of Minnesota’s new cannabis industry.
The training will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, June 21, at Sabathani Community Center Auditorium (310 E 38th St. Ste. 200, Minneapolis). Preregistration is strongly encouraged. Sign up at this registration form.
The workshop is part of the state’s commitment to building a fair and inclusive cannabis industry. Recently enacted changes to Minnesota’s cannabis law established a licensing preapproval and vetted lottery process for qualified social equity applicants.
For people who are not able to attend the event, OCM will post a recording on its website that provides a step-by-step guide through the verification process. Additional information and technical assistance resources are planned, said Charlene Briner, OCM interim director.
“The Office of Cannabis Management is committed to providing ongoing information and assistance as we prepare to open the application and licensing process,” said Briner. “We encourage potential applicants to check our website frequently as we continue to add guides and materials to support applicants every step of the way,”
As part of this summer’s launch, applicants will complete a verification process to ensure they meet qualifications for social equity status (this process opens on June 24 and closes on July 10).
Those verified as a social equity applicant will be able to submit an application for license preapproval (this process opens on July 24 and closes on Aug. 12, as required by law). Submitted applications will go through a review and vetting process, and if qualified, be entered into a lottery, which is planned for this fall.
Applicants will complete the verification and preapproval processes via OCM’s website.
